Drivers side door latch?(not sure what its called) that stops it from over extending is loose. It feels like the welds on the nut inside the frame broke because the bolt just spins in place. Dealer won't fix it but recommended a body shop to do it. Body shop wants $550 because i guess they have to cut that piece out to weld the nut back on and then weld it back in place and repaint. Just looking for second opinions or options from you guys.

    Video of the issue.

Might take this back to Toyota, and ask them to get a dspm involved. This was a notorious problem on siennas awhile back and they stood behind it and warrantied it.

If the nut is still attached you *Might* get lucky with an impact. If u spin the bolt fast enough, the inertia will keep the nut stationary for a brief second and u might be able to sneak up on it. Bump the trigger a bunch and cock the bolt sideways with the impact attached so the nut gets jammed up and hopefully tightens

Wow, that sounds like it could be dangerous and a serious safety issue should the door decide to fly open. Make note of the names of the advisor(s) and date of your complaint. This could get interesting

Someone’s getting bent over for $550 but it wouldn’t be me if I could help it but do what you like!

Isn’t that a door latch striker that’s loose?

Nope. It's Door check stop, or detent rod. The thing that keeps your door open halfway or stops it from over extending.

These 2 gold colored nuts were very loose. Tightening corrected the issue.
