Should i trade 4Runner for Tacoma

I've thought about trading my 2018 T4R for a 2019 at the end of the 2019 model year for the same reason. If not, certainly for the 2020. I can deal with TSS. Don't like it but I can tolerate it. But I couldn't tolerate the Tacoma's 3.5 Atkinson "light" or whatever the hell it is.

Just need to wait and see what's in store for the 2021 T4R's. It'll probably be a 9 speed trans or something weird like that (I recently drove the new Pilot... omfg).

 

Haha I felt the same way. Like getting a 1973 Vette right off the showroom floor. Ahhhhh.

Something to be said about that, my 2017 does not THANKFULLY have that shit. Wifey's 2019 Forester has all of it and we have it turned off, well as much as you can, overall I cannot sand it.

 

Funny how people come on here and ask what to buy. When I get an itch for a new vehicle I know exactly what I want.

 

^^ Fixed it. The 4Runner has never been a “truck”. That’s like calling your Tacoma a “rig”.

I have both an love my 4runner so much more. It’s more practical and tons more interior room. It rides better and I get better gas milage. Don’t get me wrong, the Taco is great and I currently drive it most days. But if I had to keep just one. It would be the 4runner

 

Whoa, you’re kidding right, the rear seat room is dramatically larger in the 4Runner. Like night and day difference

 

I have owned 4R’s and tacoma’s but, having owned Toyota trucks since 1977 I would go with Tacoma because, I love trucks more.

 

I bought a 2019 Tacoma AC OR 6M/T last week. After selling my '97 4runner about 4 years ago (owned for 5 years), I finally started looking for another 4Runner but then quickly realized that they are several thousand more $ than a Tacoma, are A/T only and a Tacoma AC with a 6' bed does a better job of carrying my skis. So for me, Tacoma is more practical and less expensive. An easy decision, really.

 

Toyota definitely incentivizes Taco sales more than T4Rs. MSRP discounts and special APRs are harder to come by on the runners.

 

I'll say Tacoma so...

 

I own a Tacoma and have driven a 19 4Runner for a bit. I think both are great but I wouldn't buy a 4Runner unless it's the upcoming 2020 model with the much needed updates.

Not sure what people's problem is with TSS.

The Tacoma will provide a bed to haul things in, and slightly better gas mileage. Other than that, it's not quite as refined as the 4Runner.

 

If you don't haul often you can rent trailers pretty cheap. No need to even buy one

 

Why limit your choices to the Tacoma or Forerunner? If you don't need a truck bed regularly there are tons of options.

 

I've tried that route before. Just a pain in the neck for me. Places that rent them are 1/2 hour away. Wait another 1/2 hour to have some high school punk explain how to "properly" hook up and operate a trailer. Drop it off and hope they don't charge me for some damage I didn't cause. No thanks. I'd just get a $600 trailer and call it good.

 

The only logical, important question for my uses is: ‘who makes the best, small, 4-door pickup with 4WD?’ I use my truck as a small pickup with 4WD that seats 4.

I don’t need/want an SUV. So really this question from the OP makes no sense to me, personally. Regardless of whether the 4Runner or the Pilot or the Sante Fe is the best SUV makes no difference if you want a pickup truck.

If you don’t use your Tacoma as a pickup truck, then it is an absolutely terrible choice for all uses. I don’t recommend it at all. If it’s just a fashion statement for you, go see a psychologist and ask them which car to buy.

 

I'm calling baloney socks. Tried to build a 4runner with a MT when I was looking and it wasn't an option.

 

Ok well call it one and a half, auto stick and my transfer case stick.
