Here's the latest update on my case. The body shop submitted the estimate to remove the bed, remove the nose, strip down the entire cab and nose section, repaint them and re-clear coat them using a "blended" formula to match what's already on the bed. Then put everything back together. Toyota has approved the estimate! So now I've got a start date of June 24th. Toyota will provide a rental for the entire duration my baby is in the shop. Wish I could have gotten them to just do over the entire truck but I'm happy with getting the entire cab done. The defect did start appearing on the tops of both front fenders and the doors and it's been getting worse and worse on the hood so the sooner we get this taken care of the better! I'll provide pics when it's all done!

I am sorry, but I would be livid. There is no way I would live with a brand new truck being repainted. I would be talking to Toyota to get some assistance on getting me into another new truck.

Well first off it's not brand new. It's two years old and second, I love this truck and I really don't want another one. If Toyota had ignored the body shops' recommendation and still would only agree to fix the affected areas THEN I would have seriously considered retaining an Attorney and going down that road. All in all, I feel like this is a good compromise if the new paint ends up matching the bed well. I appreciate your input though.

Fwiw, Toyota has always painted the beds separately from the cabs. The beds are mounted to the frames at the final assy point.

Back in the eighties I remember watching a train pulling loads of Toyota pickup beds only, heading towards the bay area or Port of Stockton.

I vaguely remember reading something about that back in the 80's, think the separate beds had something to do with a way to get around the chicken tax back then.

Toyota would not provide assistance for all of the thousands of dollars in upgrades and hours of labor to install them. No way I wanted to go down that road. It sucks, but it has better paint now than the factory sprays.

Back in the 90's I knew a guy who ordered a SB Chevy pickup in black. When his truck arrived it looked unacceptable due to excessive orange peel. As you know, a black paint job shows every little defect. So the dealer agreed to repaint his brand new truck in their dealer body shop. The resulting paint job was immaculate, the dealer even color sanded the clear coat and buffed it to a mirror finish. The owner then had it pin striped. And that paint held up just fine for many many years.

So i have a 2014 Taco Spruce Mica, this past weekend i was washing and a waxing when i noticed that the roof had a piece where the clear coat was peeling also the paint on top seem scratched. I doubt that I'm still covered under warranty but now it's bugging the hell out of me.

We've got a 2012 silver prius which the clear coat has been starting to peel on the roof. I had a lifetime warranty on a ceramic glass coat done on this 2020 tacoma. They told me if that happens they'd repaint the truck as long as i own it.
