Lots of filler wood in them which adds 0 flavor. I hear the stuff they put out now is supposedly better but I’ll stick with Lumberjack.

How is the king run? Going to be on Kenai next month fishing. Let’s drink a beer.

Having tried Traeger pellets alongside several other brands, I found that they offered little to no flavor over just cooking my food in an oven. I didn’t try Pit Boss though. Time to do some research. The best kind of research: the kind you eat!

Haven’t been paying attention to the king run because the closed the Anchor well before the season started. Well, mostly closed anyway. I think we get two weekends this year.

Beer is on me! I’ll send you my phone number and email address.

Ya you use what you can get. My experience was not much flavor at all. I was amazed when I switched to Lumberjack after a bunch of online research how much more I could taste the difference.

Having said that last time I ran out of pellets and the only thing that was open was Ace and all they had was Traeger pellets so I used em.

I'll be in Seward, AK end of this month and have planned a Halibut/Salmon trip.

Catching the King Run has always been on my bucket list but since this was a gifted trip I didn't want to push things too much.

I have a traeger but it just sits in my garage right now. It's hard to maintain good temps and I needed to use a smoke tube to really get good smoke flavor on it. I will say the clean up and maintenance is super easy though. I've gone through 4 different styles of smokers (traeger, weber smokey mountain, masterbuilt electric and weber kettle) and the plain old weber kettle grill is my favorite.

Never used one, but would suggest reading the manual for start up and shut down procedures.

Principles should be the same, temps are temps regardless of the methods
Or pit used. Get a decent thermometer to make sure the temps are what they say they are.

One day I’ll fish for kings in AK. For now I’m stuck with getting them in NY. Still fun to fight, but I won’t eat one from there.

Seward is heckin nice! Have a burger at The Smoke Shack!

I’ve actually never caught a king. I’m the kinda guy who likes the catchin way more than the fishin and you have to be pretty good at fishin to hook a king.

Awesome I will check that place out. Think we will be staying there for 5 or 6 nights during the trip.

The Gulf of Mexico is my fishing grounds. I usually take 3 or 4 trips a year with a good friend of mine that runs a light tackle inshore trips.

Well I called Dicks again & they priced matched rural King’s $4.99 a bag. I know some of you will never spend a dime there. I respect that. I honestly buy wherever I can save

So I’m getting 10 bags of 20lbs lumber jacks competition and hickory pellets for $33. So total 200lbs of pellets o_O Had to do 2 separate transactions of 5 bags each. I’m happy. Just got my email confirmation that they are shipping today.

    Shipped to my house :D
What you do is you go Dicks website. Start adding them to your cart. That will create an order # on the top left of your screen. You call customer service and give them that order # and tell them that ruralking.com is doing a sale. I will tell you that they obviously got a lot of calls for this price matching that last few days. Some managers are more flexible and helpful than others. I was on the phone waiting for a managers approval for 30min. There were some blends that they could match like pecan or oak because they were either out or just couldn’t do it. So I took what I could. 5 competition and 5 hickory. I got 10 emails with tracking. Looks like they shipped them all separately :D

At first we did 10 in one order but it came out to $74 because of shipping. But when we tried 5 bags per transaction, the shipping charge went away. Also if you run into that issue, a few guys just mentioned that it’s free shipping if you spend $49 and customer service took it off. Good luck !

And for those still upset for shopping at Dicks. Smile and be happy, I’m sure they just lost some money from me. Shipping alone for those 20lbs bags x 10 has to be more than my $33 total:rofl:
