since we're all waiting patiently for the next big news i thought i'd ask .....i used TS to update to 04b04 ....but where on there can i find the info i need to change the blinker count from 3 to 4 or 5 ?

Oh come on, nobody here would whine and bitch about it not being ready NOW...

 

So, what's the general consensus about towing with OVTune?
I have a 3800lb (fully loaded) trailer.
Higher octane, more compression, more power? So 93 performance would be the way to go?
Currently running 91 base and loving it, running 4.88's and 285/75's. The smoothness of this tune configuration leads me to call it the yacht rock of tunes.

I also assume it would be best to switch to the towing tune at least 30 miles before the actual towing to allow the truck to get situated... ?

Thoughts? Reflections? Words of wisdom?

Also, speaking of yacht rock, the great San Antonio native yacht rocker Christopher Cross once wrote a song called 'Sailing.' Little known is the actual first version of the song. As Cross was an auto performance enthusiast, the original lyrics were, "Tuning, takes me awaaaaay to where I'm going," and, " The CAN bus can do miracles, just you wait and see."

But seriously, please chime in on that towing query.

 

If you are happy with the tune you have, I wouldn't flash to 93... just fill the tank w/ 93 and off to the races. You'll still get some lift naturally from the advance.

 

I’d stay on what you are currently running if you are happy with it. I’ve towed over 5,000 miles on 87 tunes and it’s night and day over the factory tunes. The higher octanes may be better but the locations I travel to seem to not have higher octane fuels available. I’ll run them if I can find them, but I don’t switch tunes.

I’ve switched tunes and towed immediately after flashing and others have swapped at gas stations after getting fuel. It’s no big deal.

 

Unrelated to OVT but what are your lift specs? It looks great even with the shell and trailer back there.

I’m flashed to 1.05.1 87 gearlock specifically for towing. It’s a performance tune so it also works well without gearlock engaged. I’m towing 3150# loaded, (S4, 55-60 mph, 2600 rpm, trans pan temp 185) and the truck is perfectly suited for this duty in the area where I live. Mostly flatland with the odd incline here and there. It never has to be downshifted from 4th to handle the overpasses and inclines. That’s the beauty of gearlock. Just press on the skinny and she zips up the hill in 4th.

I haven’t tried the base tune for towing but I suspect it would work just as well with probably slightly higher rpm at highway speed in S4. But I’d miss the gearlock.

In a previous post buried somewhere in this thread, @OVTune did recommend a performance tune for towing.

All I can say is you're a SOB lol. If that's the 19FBS that's the exact trailer I've been wanting to get, but we're too upside down on our current. We still love our current trailer though and people are actually starting to go with us so all that extra space is finally getting used after 3 years.
Mine is 4200lbs (loaded and weighed on a truck scale) and 8' wide (which does make a big difference) and I'm running 93perf. Pulls like a champ. Way better than stock.

GearLock was the tune that OVTune recommended for towing btw. I may switch back to it but i do like using ECT.

Depending on your elevation, 4500ft or higher it’s typically better to run lower octane to avoid running too rich. I just did about 1200 miles through Idaho and the 87 base tune ran great in the high elevation and I netted consistently 20mpg or better

 

It is and it’s a great trailer.
I’ve put a lot of work into it. And money! Compost toilet, 200ah lithium, 300w solar, 60lb propane, off road suspension, the works. Highly recommend


Think I’m going to go the 87 gearlock route this trip to test it out.
I’ll report back after July 4th.

 

Wouldn’t care much for the truck without them! Or without the OVTune for that matter.
