I told my co-worker about this deal and he said that he takes advantage of offers like this regularly. He pointed me to this website that tracks the best offers from banks, credit card companies, etc. He said he made over $1,000 from HSBC last year on one of their promotions.

i open credit cards for the perks a lot, and when i get the rewards in my hands i'll throw the card in the safe and never use it again. It raises my credit limit which raises my credit as well so double whammy. I only close a CC after getting the perks if it has a yearly fee.

thanks for the link, checking it out now.

I can see myself doing this with banks but not cards.. I know the credit agencies will ding you if they see a card has been inactive for more than 3 months. I might have to bookmark that link in your previous post though. Easy money.

I sold some excess from positions that have gone up a lot lately, and started a position in CAT. It just seems like a great time to buy that stock if you ever wanted it, the dividend is high and a trade deal (which I think will happen) will make this thing do well!

I have no crystal ball but it looks like trade maybe coming to a head- a list of companies realigning their supply chain to include other countries seems to be growing. Ones I heard this morning were:
    Nintendo
    Sharp
    Foxconn(Apple)
    crocs
    Alphabet

    any others...

This is true, but over the long-term (very long), I don't see this as an issue. I mean, in the next 30-40 years, how many presidents will there be, democrats and republicans? I am sure the trade war will only present buying opportunities if you intend to hold onto your stocks for a while. The trade war won't last forever though.

From my work experience in contract manufacturing There is a real cost to moving a supply chain, my point only is that once moved it is not likely to go back. Meaning that a company will keep two country of origins on a widget or just relocate the widget to another country of origin.

If I am China... I am not going to be liking my customers relocation or dual sourcing and this trade war moves from temporal tariffs to longer loss of revenue/GDP. At least in my minds eye the pressure to find resolution is increasing

I think that is the reason Trump put the tariffs on, because nobody benefits from them directly, but the pressure of them losing business might bring them to the table. That’s how I have always thought about this at least.

all speculation and "unverified" at this point, still no word this morning about what exactly happened. The company apparently has halted any more future shipments through the area.

I am researching this further and it looks like they will pay $400 for just opening the two accounts and maintaining a $15K min balance, an extra $100 for doing the direct deposit thing. I really don't want to deal with the payroll department at work so I think I will just do the $400 option. I will set up a recurring ACH from Vanguard for $100/month and see if that qualifies as a direct deposit and possibly get that extra $100.

would you not want to use Citi for banking every day in the long run?

If not who would you just stick local or?

I have a Columbia Bank (small regional) in the lobby of my building where I work so I don't want to switch from them. There are no Citibank branches near me (but millions of ATMs, lol). Not that I have to step foot in a bank a whole lot, but it's nice to have one close by if I ever need to. I have some joint cash with my wife in a Columbia Bank account getting no significant interest that would be perfect to use to take advantage of this Citibank offer.

Take a look at Bank of America. They have Merrill Edge for investing that’s connected to your account. The benefits are great if you have $20k, $50k, or $100k in your accounts. The benefits step up based on what you have, and with $100k you get 100 free trades per month, unlimited free ATM withdrawals, and a lot of rewards and loan benefits.
