I never do any of the oil tests. My new engine has ~130k on it. Truck has over 200k it'd still have the original engine if I didn't hydrolock it.

Definitely a concern trying new things and added risk of extra hardware prone to failure. I try things out and disregard opinions until so. Many a times ‘they’ are right and I am wrong. But gotta give it a shot. 200 000 km later and all is good. Not even sure if I would do an install like this again, but now I know.

All hardware came from Amsoil. Looked it up on site.

What a drag!! I never bought into changing the oil every 3-5k, but glad you are doing it as it works for you, Europe has invested in that train of thought.

Not really. I won't go into why because you see it completely differently and prescribe to the long engine oil change intervals. I will say there is a lot more to it than it being as simple as synthetic oil longer intervals.

Actually testing oil is used in many places, here in the US, many big truck fleets for one...its very common in facility operations, utility plants, Waste treatment plants, etc..I spent 40+ years in Facilities and we had hundreds of pumps, compressors etc....testing oil to schedule change out when needed based on data can yield a considerable savings in oil/filters etc.... we ran a large program for many years....I follow the same principle on my truck...

and depending on filters much smaller filtering..I run a single by pass which is good to 2 micron rather then the 20 or so the oem does.....

Same here: I’ve also gone 12k+ on Mobil1 EP and a Fram ultra.... uoa was “try 15k next time.”

IMO, Bypass filters are not needed with today’s extended drain oils (in port injected or non fuel-diluting applications).

OP could save money on oil changes with a non-amsoil prices manufacturer - while keeping the same OCI.

5 years later. 276 000 km. Mostly short trips now. Pulled 5x10 with quad and gear to Waiparous Alberta yesterday. Mother head wind. Too the floor in 4 th. 2500 at 100 km/h. Just stayed there and pulled grunt like. It’s all it had. 93 C on coolant from Scanguage. Not high but that constant load and then up Cochrane hill (east). Same thing but 3rd to the mat all the way up sitting at 3000 rpm. Never have added oil except when I used 0w-20. So I switched to 0w-30.
This is when I am glad to have 2 extra qts. of oil because of the bypass filter additional oil capacity. Amsoil 0W-30 except several 0W-20 changes early on.
    Just keep it rolling.
