I would agree with you minus the fact that I dont have 4x4... So my input is biased in the fact that I would rather buy a newer truck than do the 2400ish dollar 4x4 conversion that is just about entirely custom and a lot of work. Thats $2400 if you dont take it somewhere to be done professionally

I only buy 4x4's. I understand the cost issue. After I did a motor swap on the Tacoma 4x4 that I bought for $500 I started researching doing a solid axle swap. After realizing the expense to convert mine I started looking for a solid axle Yota and bought 2 fzj80's. They have solid axles & triple locked from the factory and both were cheap. Pic from the day I bought this one from a fellow TW member for $1700.

Well I didn't even buy this truck, it was my one free vehicle to start driving, which was free to my parents as well because it used to be my grandma's. So it was driven incredibly lightly, and kept in a garage its whole life. Then I got the truck and had to make it look better of course! And like say, that diff locker and tires has taken me further then some of my buddies with just 4x4

I gave my stepson the 04 Tacoma TRD 4x4 that hes currently driving. Needless to say hes hooked on Toyota trucks. If he buys my brothers I'm getting it back. It has almost half-a-million miles and still going strong. I also bought this truck from a fellow TW member.

Ha sweet! Glad he has become a Tacoma fan! I too have fallen in love with this truck over my 2 years of owning it. Not to mention im not even at the 200k club yet... Still at 133k so this truck will last me for a very long time

Since your truck was your grandmas and was garaged i bet its clean, I would keep that truck. Build it like @Bobby18, a bad ass prerunner.

Don't even have to pop the hood between oil changes. I bought it for $600 because of the high miles & the frame had some rust. Joe at Mobtown fixed the frame for me.

these trucks will last a long time if you take care of them. Have you seen the guy with the 1.2 million mile Tacoma?

I asked that question a few pages ago. Must've been missed. I'll be there at 8 when the gates open so I can get through the trails before they get too rutted up by the jeep geeks. Shouldn't have any problems running the motox course and green and blue trails in my stock truck

Not sure. Never actually been on those trails. I spoke to whoever is in charge of the fb page and told him what I had and that I was pretty experienced with offroading and he told me the green and blue trails were probably the max I could do and blue they may require a winch or to go with someone who has a winch. The motocross track looks pretty easy. Like 2wd easy.

I have a friend who races MX professionally so i've been there many times for races but never driven on their trails. They have pretty strict rules during race weekends. I dont know about 2WD drive easy for the track but it still doesn't appeal to me that much
