I personally wouldnt mind it being a bit more like the Rangers 2.3. Five Star tune dropped its 0-60 from like 7.5 to 5.5.

Back then, pickup trucks were owned almost exclusively by people who used them for work.

    Now they are "lifestyle" vehicles...

Over the life of the trucks the Tacoma will be cheaper. That’s been my experience having driven Toyota pickups for more than 40 years.

Ford needs to stop playing it safe is what they need to do. I know they've got some talented designers and engineers working for them, but they are likely all hamstrung by the bean counters.

The current Ranger has "design by committee" written all over it, and that just isn't going to fly when you're trying to beat the competition.

Agree.. IMO, the single biggest problem with the Ranger is that Ford didn't give the consumer (truck or lifestyle buyer) a SINGLE thing that they wished for! Nothing! This is why experienced truck buyers, lifestylers & even mall crawlers are shunning it. It's not even a fad at this point!

I don’t see the problem. Was in Australia recently and checked out the Ranger Raptor. It was a great truck. If it was offered in the states I would be in one of those right now beating the hell outta it. Also, the Gladiator Rubicon is fun and I’ll probably get one of those next and beat the hell out of it. As for the ZR2, not my cup of tea, but I’m glad it exists.

(Had my TRD for one month and been off-roading and rock crawling at least twice a week since delivery)

For the record: the Ranger Raptor sold in Australia and the one Ford is reportedly working on for North America are not the same.

Raptor is just a Ranger trim level in Australia, while Ford is supposed to be giving Ranger a full Raptor treatment for these shores.

No one gets ahead in automotive journalism by recommending you buy the most popular choice. This guy, like other automotive shills, do far better for themselves cashing Fiat and Ford cheques, when those makers are trying to break Tacomas stranglehold on the segment. Toyota isn’t going to fluff this guy’s pillows when they are already ahead.

For any product journalist it’s “career first / truth second” always. Don’t kid yourself otherwise.

Toyota isn't dumb. They'll have something to compete with the Raptor Ranger when it's released.

Might be getting too old for this.
I drove a 2016 Colorado Z71 with less than 60k miles. Already, it had a problem where the auto roll up of the driver's side window would go halfway up and then down again by itself (multiple times) and coming off the freeway to a stop, the low fuel light came on and the engine immediately died (once). I panicked for a bit thinking I was gonna have to push it to the gas station across the street but it fortunately cranked back up for me to limp it there.

Needless to say...I'm not a fan of the ol' Bow Tie.

Yeah, a Pro with wide fenders, wheel spacers, stickers, and an extra $20k over the Pro.

I’m simply pointing out that “Raptor” in Australia is not the same as here. That’s all. No need to get defensive.

Jesus. That wasn't meant to come off as offensive at all. No need to be so sensitive.
