12v ingnition ON Source

Can any one of the smart people watching this thread draw up a wiring schematic for this? I’m not the sharpest pencil in the box, lol. The relay is what is confusing me... I mean, I know I need it, I just don’t know how to wire it up...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

 

I am on my phone so I will do my best to draw a mental picture for you. Take your left hand and make a peace sign. Now turn it horizontal and take your right index finger put it between the two fingers on your left hand and touch your index finger which I assume will be the top finger of your left hand. Your left index finger is terminal 87A the middle finger is terminal 87. The index finger on your right hand is terminal 30. Moving your right index finger between your left index and middle fingers represents the relay turning on and off.. When turned off, terminals 30 and 87A connected. These 3 are the power terminals that carry the load of whatever you're adding. Terminals 85 and 86 are the coil. One of these will be grounded the other will be connected to a fused, switched source like an add a fuse.
Connect your fused 12v feed to terminal 87 and whatever it is you are wanting to control to terminal 30.
Keep the wire feeding the fuse to the relay as short as practical as it is unprotected by said fuse.

 

Should I be using a relay for each "addition" I'm using? Camera, USB Step Down Converter, Front Facing Camera, etc...?

 

If they're small loads, then sure, why not.
In that case I'd fuse the feed to the relay, then make a pigtail and use scotch locks to feed a fuse for each thing you want to connect.
Use a piece of 14 awg wire and a 15 amp Fuse to feed the relay and a piece of the same wire for the scotch locks. Put an insulated butt splice on the end in case you need to extend it. 18 awg with a 1 amp fuse will be fine for the coil power.

 

Coil Power = Battery Power?

 

Coil power is what turns the relay on. Terminals 85 and 86. The battery feed for your accessories goes to terminal number 87 and the pigtail goes to terminal number 30.

@r_to_the_k I mis-read your post. I was describing using one relay to control several things that you want to turn on with the key. The relays are generally rated 20 amps or more.
Things like lights get their own relay.
