Thank you for the intel. I'm looking forward to using it in the near future. What size wood do you use for it? I see the firewood in your photo. Do you have to chop it into smaller sizes to fit the Bonfire? The Ranger is smaller than what you have I believe.

I got a Biolite Firepit at a REI garage sale. I am very impressed. 16" + firewood, clean burn, and you can use charcoal and raise the burn platform.
Costs less than solo. You gotta charge the fan battery though.

im able to use what ever as it is a bit larger - from stuff friends give me to whatever i can buy - depending if you intend to use to cook with you could get new mexico pinon wood from lowes - smaller pieces and smells good (and will keep the mozzies away) i use it sometimes2B378E57-89FA-4E16-96DE-FDA05B0D5710.jpg

Back from five days of camping and am excited to share my thoughts on the Solostove Campfire and Ranger. They are both great. The Ranger worked well keeping me warm at altitude on some chilly nights. I tried out the Campfire after the Ranger and didn't think it would compare to it's bigger sibling. It is doable for two people but not sure it would be useful at very low temps. I was comfortable using it under the awning during some rain showers. That being said both are fine units and it will be a toss up to see which I use more. So nice to leave a campsite and not leave a trace of a fire even though fire rings were present.

I'll be searching for different wood options. With the small "pinion" wood it was easier to chop into smaller pieces for the Campfire. It also made things fragrant but I think that comes at a cost. It seemed to put off a black sooty smoke. I'm suspecting they treat the wood with something to create the pinion scent. It states on the package not to cook with it. One of the aspects of the Solostove products is a "clean burn". For those of you who have used these in the past please share any experiences.

There's creosote in pinon, its natural and sooty. Not an additive. When we use it in the fireplace we clean the chimney more often.

Just a bunch of old crap
Won't lie... got a bit of a chubby when these arrived today. 2 of the 73L Alu-Boxes will sit side by side perfect in the bed of the truck behind the wheel wells (long bed). Just waiting for the K9 brackets that will allow me to lock them into the bed for security. These will hold all of the dry gear that I bring on a normal camping trip that isn't clothing or bedding.

Just got my backcountry permit for the Grand Canyon in October. I am excited. A great way to celebrate the Grand Canyon National Park’s 100th anniversary.

Always thought about getting the Solostove campfire for truck camping. But wasnt sure how it would perform to keep me warm. Any pics of the solostove and ranger side by side out of the box?

Yes but I'm glad I have both. They can be used in various conditions.

Down Hermit’s Trail, hang a left on Tonto Trail to Hermit’s Creek campsite. Next day back up Tonto Trail to Monument Creek Camp and then third day to Indian Garden.

i have the solo stove bonfire, bigger again. i fill it with wood when heading out, so the space doesnt get wasted. (usually trash on the way home - or whatever) personally love it. its been a bunch of places and burns well, i also cook on it. keeps us warm as much as a fire can when outside in 20* and 20mph winds.......

(pic not 20mph also not 20*....also night)

I’m a noobie when it comes to these, but what are the benefits vs just building your own log cabin fire? Besides leaving no trace, of course

some places require "fire in metal container only" - anza borrego being one them - local to us. efficient burning so uses possibly less wood which probably provides better heat (walls heat up) - easy lighting as well
they arent cheap - thats for sure. and i questioned my sanity when i first brought mine. but having used it so much in the last couple of years - its been awesome - to me
