Hey, Ward got mvp, I believe. And he had a pretty solid nhl career. Nothing to be ashamed of. He's still decent now. If Binn's journey is anything like Murray's, he will need to do more before Blues fans are sold on him. But to be fair, a lot of Pens fans are idiots and can't look past the love affaid with MAF, even if Murray won 4 straight Cups. Lol. So I hope Binnington has an easier time than MM lol. He prob will. I actually feel bad for Jake Allen though.

 

Yeah, Ward won MVP and the Calder IIRC. It’s not that Ward had a bad career, but Roy’s career is in that best ever category. Ward had about a half dozen solid seasons and then, well, he was in the bottom half of the NHL starters. I’m sure the Blues wouldn’t be offended if Binnington can put up a career that is worthy of a HHOF immediate induction upon retirement.

I don’t feel bad at all for Allen. He had plenty of chances to be the guy and could never stay consistent. He arguably had a better opportunity than Binnington since he had the Blues top end D when they were younger.

 

I’ll also add that if MM continues to struggle if his career will draw comparisons to Cam Ward. It’s hard not to if he can’t turn it around. Murray’s still young though, I’m not writing him off at all. I do think though, like many teams, the Pens need to take a second look at how many games he plays in a season and get a little more help. Toronto needs to do the same. I’m hoping Hutchinson is going to resign for a million a year and we can get 30 games out of him.

 

No doubt. Actually I wouldn’t be shocked if something crazy happens with him. He’s arbitration eligible so he could try to make a case he’s worth Matt Murray money and probably win it. Maybe we even see a team desperate for a goalie put in an offer sheet since it wouldn’t have to be an enormous one to lure him away. Who knows, whatever happens this half season and playoff run he had will set him up for life.

All friggin game I was pulling my hair out...not just on Marchand but the timing of most of the line changes..

I'm just saying, I don't expect Binnington to be Patrick Roy. And if he ends up like a Ward it won't be terrible.

And I'm not saying Allen hasn't had his chances or anything. But with the hype / pedigree with him, having the Blues groom him and finally turn over the keys etc. Then a guy seemingly comes out of nowhere and takes over the team and is an instant star. Tough pill to swallow, for him.

As far as Murray, it's more on the Pens to get their playstyle in check. I really don't blame him for a lot of the struggles. He was actually quite good the 2nd half of the year and even in the playoffs. Again, I am not saying Murray is Patrick Roy either. He had an amazing 2 years, it doesn't happen by accident. But he obviously was going to drop off a bit, as you can't win the Cup every year or be amazing every year. I expect much of the same with Binnington. Almost every goalie has peaks and valleys in their career and a lot of it has to do with the team. As long as they can keep some level of consistency, they should both be pretty solid starts fr years to come (I'd put Hellebyuck and Gibson in that category also).
