I live in Wisconsin and I've owned 3 trucks over 31 years. All of them 4x4 V6 5 speed manual Ford Rangers.

1988 STX owned for 7 years. Sold it with 125k. Excellent truck. Everything worked. No problems.

1995 STX owned for 24 years. Sold last month with 160k on it. Another excellent truck. No major problems. It was white and had virtually no rust on it.

2001 XLT bought used in 2009 with 115k on it. Now has 215k on it. More problems with this one. Ball joints, transfer case motor and controller failed. Fixed it with a "Shiftster". Manual transmission works but it's tired. AC not working. Stuff like that. Engine runs great and has lots of power. I'll be keeping this one as my second truck for now.

Special ordered a Tacoma Sport with the manual transmission. Been driving it for a few months now. Never owned a Toyota before. The only reason I got this instead of a new Ranger is because of the manual transmission. That and Ford's 4 cylinder turbo. I lived through the 80's. I thought we all learned our lesson about turbos back then.

    Mods done so far:
Removed TURD stickers from side of bed.
    Radio knobs from tacomods.com
MESO Total Tail Light Kit (Stage 1)

So far I like most things about the truck. The ride and handling are great. I love the 6 speed MT. It looks good although the stock tires are a little boring. I really disliked the taillights but that's fixed now. The technology systems are kind of meh. The adaptive Cruze control is the worst. I will never use it again. Overall a very nice upgrade to the older Rangers I'm use to driving.

I agree. I like to keep my vehicles for a long time. The new Rangers won't last very long with that engine and transmission.
