I'll be leaving for the mountains in the morning to give the 4runner it's first camping trip so we will be going places I know. This will be to give the 4runner a shakedown on some forest service roads and a camping trip for the kids spring break.

You know Ima dreamer, and my heart’s offroad. I had to drive away high, so I didn’t get stuck low. Home Sweet Home...
That sounds like a Blast man! Chances of my hall pass getting issued with all the undone items on our spring cleaning list are slim to none though. Safe Journeys to You and Yours!

Overheated the transmission on the way up 181and the rotors are shot but other than that everything was great. I'll get an oversized trans cooler and a powerstop rotor kit and give it another trip!!

I'm wanting to make this ride. Are there a bunch of spots to camp? See many people on the road?

Saw a lot of spots to camp. Not too many people when I took the ride.

Where is the trailhead for this road? I've done the Brown Mountain OHV trail but this looks a lot more scenic and enjoyable. Any information is appreciated!

I just followed the road South on Google maps and dropped a pin on the first intersection. I used that to navigate to the trailhead.

How is Brown Mtn OHV park?

    Great, thanks!

Thanks! Brown Mtn was a lot of fun, it was my first time off-roading and I was very impressed with what my truck could do. Some of the parts are tight, but with a buddy helping spot me we got through with ease. Only scraped my step bars and hitch several times.

I've only seen pictures of the trails there and some look pretty intense. Looks like most are only open to dirt bikes and ATV's. Are there enough trails open to trucks to make it worth a 2 hour trip?

How much is the day pass?

Some of the spots I was a little nervous but made it through fine just taking it slow. Most of the trails are for dirt bikes/ATV's, I think there's only 1 or 2 trails (Trail 8 and part of Trail 1) for 4wd vehicles but they are lengthy enough to make an afternoon/half a day out of it. I'd say it was definitely worth it for me coming from Charlotte about an hour and a half. They also have campsites there if you can get one before they fill up. The day pass was $5 and we got it from a gas station not too far from the trailhead.

Cool I'm in Rock Hill. Let me know if you plan on camping up on old NC105, I've got a cool campsite pinned that you can't get to in a 2WD. I've also been threatening a trip out to Jocasse Gorge.

Which part of Jocassee gorge. Some of us locals hit chestnut mountain, horsepasture rd and musterground pretty frequent.
Alot of the trails are closed during non hunting season dates.

I'm A bit curious where this area is the OP posted? How far is it from Greenville.
Can anyone drop a pin on Google maps?

    Thanks.
