OK....need some advice, opinions, snide comments, what have you......

I mentioned before that I am planning a DIY elk hunt to norhtern Colorado the last two weeks of September. I am trying to dial in my sleep kit. I was originally looking at a Mountainsmith Morrison 2, North Face Cats Meow and a Klymit Insulated Static V.

The Mountansmith Morrison had decent reviews albeit a little heavy. The NF bag has a great pack weight of 2-1/2lbs but after reading quite a few reviews the temperature rating is waaaay off. Most were saying it's barely a 40 degree bag let alone a 20 degree. Nothing bad about the Kymit pad.

So, any recommendations for tent and bag. I am trying to keep the weight under 8-1/2-9lbs if possible. I was looking at a Big Agnes Mystic UL 15 degree bag. Comfort rating should be around 25 degrees and the weight is perfect at 2lbs. I did come across a Kelty Brush Creek 2P3S tent that came in at a little over 4-1/2lbs.

    So let's hear it.

FD27C132-13A5-4ABE-9C48-6432F3D2D0A5.jpg C’mon Tacomaworld Bowhunters...keep this forum up on top. Archery elk season is a little over 3 months away. Deer season, a few weeks after that. What’s everybody been up to? Me, slowly getting my gear together for elk season. Training. And oh yeah, shooting. 30 yard group. Same set up as last year.

I checked a camera yesterday. It had 622 pics since I last checked it almost 2 months ago (I leave them out all year). When I swapped cards, the light went weak and it never powered up. Dead batteries. But check this out, I last put lithium batteries in it on Jan,19, 2018. 16 months with the same batteries ain't too bad.

    Great shooting btw!

The lithium batteries are the only way to go,I usually get 2 years out of them. I buy mine at Sam’s club for like $1.02 each, that’s the cheapest I have found.

I have three cameras out that I haven't checked since the beginning of March. Mine are out all year long too. I like to see the wildlife thru the year. I use regular Duracells or Energizers. Typically get a solid year, maybe 14,15 months. 2500 or so pics. I've had a Moultrie 990i(?) out since January of 2014. Just keeps taking pics and videos.

That's great. The only time I used non lithium batteries, I only got 9 months.

Nice!! I've been shooting longer ranges 60yd+ in preparation for this upcoming event:
    https://totalarcherychallenge.com/events/boyne-mountain-mi/
Ranges that I've been shooting are not very practical and I would never shoot at an animal at those distances. However, shooting at those distances, helped me at my practical distances. Highly recommend this type of activity to change things up!

I need to put my cameras back out. I have a small 80 acre parcel that get decent amount of deer activity. Also need to start preparing my food plots.

Agree on the long range shooting. 50 yards is the most I can get on my property. Definitely improves the 20-25 yard shots. You did an NM Elk hunt, was it last year? Any more details you can share? Forget if it was archery or rifle. Did you draw a tag or get a LO tag?

Yes I did a late October rifle hunt through draw. This year I drew the same unit but 3 weeks earlier. I'm torn to either use bow or rifle again, as it is a rifle tag again. BUT, it's the rut this time haha!

If it's the rut, bow all the way! Best time to get close.

I thought about getting one but where I would use it, is limited cell service and I didnt want an expensive camera to "walk off"...

Gonna use mine on private property. Doesn't mean it's safe. Looks like it would be a handy camera if it works right. You would limit you time disturbing the woods.

Any Bowtech Realm SR guys out there. If find my SR6 to be kinda loud. Thinking that single round vibration thing screwed in the riser is not enough.

Not a Realm SR, but I have a Reign 7. My bow seems more quiet than my previous (Bear Domain) as well as others I shot with this past weekend. Maybe something is off?
