@Kingbee14 Are you still in Japan? I'd be forever in Debt if you can pick me up one of these. From what I understand you can get them at Duty Free for around $100. I'd throw you some extra loot on top.

Edit: I realize this is a lot to ask of somebody I don't know from the internet. So if you can't no big deal.

Right after I say this I find a BOATLOAD of Yamazaki 12, at low retail! When it rains it pours... Now if I can just find Nikka From the Barrel my Japanese collection will be on its way.

I'll say! That's a little more than a dabble in to Japanese whiskies. I've had the 12 and the 18, but it was years ago before they started limiting age stated stuff and the prices went bananas. Had them back to back at a bar in Denton. I forget the prices of the pours, but it was very reasonable.

First (only) time I had Lot B was some years back at my buddy's bachelor party. This is when I drank whiskey, but wasn't really in to it the way I am now. I hadn't even heard of Pappy Van Winkle at the time. My buddy said that the guy at the liquor store told him about this stuff that some people pay a lot of money to get, so my buddy asked him to call if he got any (we're talking 2011 or so). A few weeks later, he gets a call, drives up to the store, and buys a bottle of Lot B for $80.

He brings it to the bachelor party, keeps it in the freezer, and we take shots out of it.

What was left was brought out to the wedding. All of us groomsmen were getting ready and playing high card with the loser taking a pull straight from the bottle.

The first time I had Yamazaki 12 was at a Whiskey Club meeting. We all pitch in $25 to cover whatever bottles our fearless leader chooses for the occasion. He was able to get Yamazaki 12 because it was around $60 at the time (2015?). The Japanese market has gone through a hell of a change in a short time. It's really good stuff, though.

frozen shots of PPVW 23 is on my bucket list now

I'm sure some people throw up at that story :D Maybe I'll break in my pappy palate that way... tradition ya know.

You're right about that. Popularity brings scarcity brings inflated prices. As you say, the Japanese whiskies have been blowing up in the last 5 years or so. Now if I could just find that bottle of Lot B for $80 I'd be stoked! I would probably splurge and buy two!

After adding a few (more) bottles to my cabinet today I decided it was time to purge (empty bottles that I liked the shape of) and reorganize. Top left shelf is Scotch, middle is rye (bit underrepresented right now), then whisky (two Mitchner unblended) and on the top right, over represented, is bourbon. There's a Canadian single barrel hiding in the back with a moose stopper.

Second shelf down, left side is my growing asian collection. Mostly Japanese, but my GF father gave me a special bottle of Soju Khan. His friend made and sold these commercially for a long time but retired and moved back to Korea. Before he left he made a special batch and I got one. This one has malt whisky in it but I don't know what else. It's actually pretty mild and not much nose, but still nice.

Shelves below thise are a mix of tequila, mixers, overflow bourbon, etc...
