I tried to run a coffee pot and no way!!

...It was at that point that we were waylaid by the fishery folks who were back at the tent we'd investigated the night before - there to count how many fish they'd caught in their Archimedes-screw trap during the night. We chatted each other up for a few minutes - us curious about their operation; they curious how we even found this place - before setting off downstream.

Anyone come up with a clever way of attaching a fishing rod holder to a bed rack? Trying to figure out how to best do so while running a bed rack and rtt. I'm thinking of maybe trying to attach some sort of rod wall mount under the rtt on the bed rack. That way they're inside with all of your gear, but essentially above everything in the bed so they're out of the way. Or possibly on one side of the bed rack like you would other attachments.

 

I used a couple of smaller Quick Fists mounts on the under side of my rack to carry fishing poles. They held up well, driving on and off road.

 

Maybe a length of PVC pipe and caps would work? Either zip tie or quick fist them to the bottom of the rack

 

I didn't use it for fishing rods, but the way I mounted my truck shower should work wonderfully to mount an ABS/PVC tube that you could store your poles in.

The bracket is a simple piece of rect tube with two holes drilled, so you can bolt it to the rack


then, some band clamps through the rect tube and around the ABS/PVC

 

I thought about Quick Fists, just wasn't sure if they had ones small enough. I'll definitely look into it.

This actually isn't the worst idea. Would probably be fairly inexpensive as well.

FWIW i've talked to a few who have the Mt Baker and they like it. Only complaint they have is the clamshell hinge side is a little tight for feet. But depends on height i'd imagine.

 

i've seen some that look like its hinged at the edge and other pics its 6" up then angled. I cant get a consistent read on the opening corner.

 

I went and got shorter bolts from Lowe’s so I could clear my softopper. I forget the size but they fit in the tracks easily

 

I did the same, Lowe's has a pretty good selection of stainless bolts. I bolt directly to the CBI rack, so I don't need the long bolts for the clamps. M8 I think is what I got, and the heads fit pretty tightly, but not sure they would solve for the stripped parts. If you are using the clamps, you should be able to use some vice grips on the exposed part of the bolt.

An astute reader may recall that we'd headed east a few days before Memorial Day - not just to explore Hells Canyon, but to meet up with Mike @Digiratus, Monte @Blackdawg, and Devin @MissBlackdawg. At least, those were the folks we knew; we were also rendezvousing with @BabyTaco Gage and his wife, and a couple of their friends - long overdue if you ask me.

From our current location at Hells Canyon Dam, it was some 5 hours north to Lewiston, ID, where we'd all planned to meet for lunch, so we were up early - for sunrise if it'd been sunny and we'd been able to see the horizon - to eat a quick breakfast and do our best to dry off the tent from the torrential downpour the night before.
