Thought I’d share my DIY RTT bed rack which works with tonneau cover. This solution provides secure storage while maintaining reasonable fuel efficiency, low center of gravity and fitting in most garages. This was made with a combination of structural pipe fittings and using unistrut as a base. The RTT and bed bars can easily be removed with 2 people or a roof winch. It does require drilling through the plastic bed cap and into the metal lip underneath.

Ironically, I just upgraded to GFC as I’m posting this.

Very cool! I've been debating what sort of setup I want to try out for for camping/storage plus alternate use when not camping. I've debated it all... camper shells, tonneaus, RTTs, hard shell campers and popups, and all the various combos. I think what I am leaning towards most is a system like this... a tonneau cover with bed rails overtop, on top of which I can mount a RTT (or if I want to remove the RTT, I can use the rails to hold bikes or kayaks.)

For all of you doing tonneau + bed rails... what have been your lessons learned? Any tips or suggestions if I go this route (or persuade me to go another route?)

Oh, and if you have a tonneau + bed rails setup, can you please: tell me the manufacturer of each and maybe post some pics?

Thanks for all the input! (sorry I sort of hijacked the thread, but the thread title is pretty much the same if I start my own thread :) )

You inspired me. I have been try to figure if I should get rid of the Bak2 or do something like this. So I took out the drill. Got some cheap but really solid cross bars and bolted them onto the superstrut (Lowes). I wanted to get my bikes off the roof. Going to paint the superstrut flat black. I can slide the Bars into different positions or just take them off. With them on I can still open the revolver most of the way.

Awesome! Nicely done. You can also throw some spacers between the strut and the rack depending on how much it bothers you. I noticed the plate, I grew up in Brooklyn.
