Well, we made is back. The winds the first day were tough on us and the tent. Setup camp on the south end near the lighthouse, the winds were pretty bad so I parked the truck close to the tent to help block some of the wind. It helped but we still got a bunch of sand in the tent and ate a little sand. In the middle of the night, the winds shifted and the tent took a beating but it made it thru. We made the decision to break camp in the morning and move somewhere else. We got up in the morning and packed up the truck and drove down to the light house to cook and re-organize. Winds were expected to die down in the afternoon, so we hung around the lighthouse and drove around looking for a different spot to camp. We ended up back in our original spot. It was a pretty good spot anyways so we were fine with it. Winds dies down to around 10mph and it was just right. Kids played in the cold water and we had a good time. The second night there was practically no wind. Getting thru that first day was tough but were glad we went. The winds after that were just right and the temp was great. Didn't have too many bugs where we were, we noticed that north of the cabins the bugs were terrible but better when you went south. It was a great time and the only time the wife wanted to leave was the first night when the wind shifted and sand was getting in the tent, but after that things went great and we all had a great time. Can't wait to go back. Next time, I'll try and do some fishing. It would've been hard to fish with everything else going on.

First post U'all. Live just outside of Elizabeth City in Nixonton NC. Bought a 06 standard cab with a cap, 6 speed 4x4 to have fun on OBX and do some fishing. Bran new at Surf fishing. Owned a Fountain offshore for years, so no stranger to being on the water down there .
Were old but into about everything from boating, bikes to racing but hoping to find a crowd that are cool to hang with we can look forward to having fun with on the beach. Big time into modding everything so looking foward to seeing how you all have fixed up your trucks.

One of the reasons I went with a 4wd. We have been wanting to vacation there and read you need 4wd to access some of that area.

Your truck looks great but are you running mud tires on that thing. Looks like it from the close up photo.
Last picture you took with the sunset behind the two trucks are cool. Tent I have is a 10x10 and is that the size that is behind the other truck in that last photo. You got a hick coming from Charolotte to OBX.

I am running mud tires. I had trail grapplers, and now Mastercraft mxt’s. I run 15 psi or lower if it’s really soft sand.

10x10 canopies, the Amazon Coleman’s are awesome.

And yes, long trip from Charlotte but totally worth it.

I had mud tires everyone said go ATs so I ordered a set of ATs. LOL live and learn. Kinda figured it was about 10x10. Already have one for another hobby but wanted to know the size so I could see what mine would look like. Going to run two bars off the roof rack on the topper to hold it then stake the other two off. Travel with work, just bought the Tocoma have not been home yet to start putting everyone on it. Thanks.

AT tires are better in sand but low psi is more important. I pulled out a Ram Power Wagon at the Corolla entrance because he wouldn’t air down his BFG all terrains. Pulled him out easily with trail grapplers at 15 psi. Honestly I should have just left him there after trying to convince him to air down.

I'm learning. Been reading about everything I could the last 2.5 weeks down here in Fla working. I have a dodge 3500 dulley but have two boxes on the front set up with the racing so no way to pull from the front if it sank and they stay on it full time and everyone said Dulleys don't do well in sand. . . Thats why I ask about the 10x10. Have a tent we set up by the trailer while were at the track. Blew a hole in a air tank several years ago 240v double piston air compressor , ordered a 6.5 hp gas motor rigging that up for the back of the truck so can pump our tires up fast. Simple portable tank on that will work. Seen a video on youtube guy stuck it and tried to, then leaked the tires down it pulled right out. Crazy how tires react just be leaking them down.
Were just across the sound from OBX so we're going to be over there a lot. This is mamas toy and her dime. I'm just getting to have all the fun turning it up a notch or two. Bliston shock you can adjust are waiting with the 265/75s now. Trucks a 6 speed 4.0 so not doing anything to the motor. it has all we need for what we're doing. Setting the back end up with another stero. XM, and grill. Hour 15 minuets around the sound, were at OI and the new bridge. Wish we could spend the nights on the beach but I have a huge Lance 1191 camper we can use the camp sights, I'll drive the Dodge. mama can drive her truck over spend friday and Saturday night, hit the beach Saturday and Sunday home sunday evening. She has a regular job. Rods, reels, truck stuff, all inbound off e bay. Looking forward to getting it all going. On the right track anyway.

Before I pull anybody out I check for two things. One, do they have a permit to be on the beach, and two, did they air down. If not they can call a tow.

Still cleaning up the back end, shes starting to take shape. Added a white LED light strip behind the speaker rack in the back bed lights up that bed at night.
Seen a set of mirrors for about 110 on e bay, guys.. Thats one of the best mods I have done to the truck. Amazing how much better you can see behind you with those . About two more full days, smitty built awning is still inbound so maybe 2.5 days work on it she is done. Inside cab is a electronic persons dream. Figured you'll get a kick out the bottle opener. :) See you guys on the beach.
