I was told by my buddy who works at Lexus that they have started doing updates that installs apple car play to older cars. I wonder if anyone has heard anything about Toyota doing the same?
I hope they do. I have a feeling that Toyota may hold back on updates due to Apple play being a selling point upgrade feature for the 2020 Tacoma?

As far as we know, it is only Entune 3 which is only on the Camry and Sienna for now. We have Entune 2.

No. Will more than likely (REALLY more than likely) not come to 2016-2019 models. The "older" model vehicles such as the Camry have Entune 3.0, therefore they can have the update applied to run AA/ACP. Our head units run Entune 2.0, which does not have the computing power necessary to run Entune 3.0, and Entune 2.0 does not have the necessary computing power to run AA/ACP. In order for our trucks to receive the aforementioned update capable of running more advanced applications, our head units would need to be swapped out to the newer head units, and Toyota would need to pay for the additional & necessary licensing fees for each model year Tacoma alone. From a financial perspective, it's not worth it for a company to do.

Anything stopping us from using an entune 3.0 from another model in our trucks?
