Do you do your maintenance at toyota? You have your first 25k free, and then you can buy another 25k miles for like $300.

They wouldn’t sell warranties if they weren’t profitable.

I do not. I no longer trust dealerships to work on my truck. I do all my own maintenance and keep good logs.

How come? Did something specific happen, or do you just want to do it yourself because of the stealerships?

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
I found that since I was using the dealer to do all of my maintenance, that it was worth the money. I didn't pay a cent in maintenance costs for 75K miles (beyond the cost of the plan)

My "free" oil changes would take 3 hours of my time sitting in the dealership. I had a tire shop crank down too hard on my SCS lug nuts and they had to cut one off. The first time I changed my oil I could tell someone used an impact on my drain plug. No one is going to care as much about my truck as me. So I should be the one doing the maintenance on it.

I feel like the Fast and Furious crowd is working on cars these days. A lot of them have a less then in-depth knowledge of how things work. They think that hooking up a computer will do all the work for them. And in some instances it's true. Techs have become over-glorified parts changers and they don't have the ability for critical thinking. It's not all techs, but I've spoken to good techs and they say the same the same thing.

If I'm going to any shop it's because I'm either stumped, or don't have the equipment. Even the one independent shop I do trust has let me down a few times.

Overall, I think extended warranties are a huge waste of money. Cars nowadays hold up as long as you maintain them. And Toyotas are more forgiving than other cars. Even if you had the warranty and took it in for something you broke from off-roading the service writer will fight to not cover it under warranty. It's in their best interest to not cover it. The service writer and tech are on commission. The more they make, the more they make.

I can vouch for this. We had purchased an extended warranty for our Buick Enclave that I had to use to have them replace the timing chain (evidently this is a known issue with the motor) In order for them to consider covering it I had to provide all maintenance records showing oil changes and mileage,etc... Then after providing all of that they then proceeded to request the motor be disassembled and pictures of the valves taken and sent in - at my expense, with the assumption that if it were covered they would reimburse me that expense. They finally gave in after quite a fight but this goes to show how much like pulling teeth it actually is. If I recall correctly, this whole process took over two months!!!

Congrats making it through the year. I just swapped my insurances to AR, and I'm sitting at the DMV now for my license and vehicle registration.

My insurance out here is 60-70% higher than in VA. :bananadead:

Yeah. That's the part I posted.

That is what I think I will do. Get the extended maintenance thing but not the warranty.

Hey Fellas/Ladies. Just wanted to introduce myself to the local community. Been lurking the forums for a while & finally pulled the trigger the other night. On a "New to Me" 2016 TRD-off road. My names JB, I'm local to the George Mason University area, in Fairfax. So if you ever see me around, hope we can chat! I'm excited to see where this truck goes/takes me, since I've finally grown out of the "low-life tuner scene" and owning Volkswagen for the past 10+ years.

Do you all ever have meet ups locally? if so where?

..anyways hope to be able to soak up some knowledge from some of you older Toyota guys. Look forward to meeting some of you! Take care!

Question: The other day while doing my 30K maintenance I noticed grease coming from the circled area in the picture. There are zerks there to add grease so obviously I'm a little concerned. Should I be?

There's a zerk right where you circled? Shouldn't be unless you changed them.
