Prices coming down?

There is GM, Ranger is in full production, Nissan is taking up the slack on the lower end as the Frontier is doing well for an very old truck. All the craze is now about Jeep's truck.

From what you seen, all of this competition have any effect on Tacoma prices? Or any sign that inventory is building up? Or Tacomas are not flying out the door, like before?

 

They will not adjust pricing, they have the market still, unless I misread the ad a few days ago. The new jeep trucks are way to expensive to buy for what you are getting. Granted all the mid size trucks are way overpriced for what you get.

 

Toyota is smart they will throttle production back before they start wheeling and dealing, it’s part of how the brand keeps high resale.

There's brands that understand and do this, there's brands that don't. The brand's that don't, often loose repeat customers.

 

There was a time when every company built smallish trucks. Over time they faded away and the Tacoma stood. Theres never been a sale on tacomas and I wouldnt wait for one. That's why they command such high used car prices.

 

Prices are going up. Last check it’s going to be $5K more for the 2020 model year.

 

I was maxed out at 34K .

Ford is asking for $42k for a ranger... Granted they're not selling tons, but they're asking. GM gets almost $50k for a diesel ZR2.
Jeep goes to almost $60k.

Toyota is licking their chops at this new pricing. It's gonna go up, not down. I guarantee it. The market has spoken.

 

Maybe in Canada, in real prices mid size trucks are cheaper than ever AND you get a ton more stuff for your $

But I bet its true in Canada too it just doesn't "feel" that way because incomes haven't kept up with inflation.

 

Its funny the "competition" keeps releasing new models and Toyota just keeps selling EVEN MORE Tacos lol. They don't fear their rivals they welcome the expanding segment.

Depends on the market you're in. I was pricing Diesel ZR2's a couple months back and they were being advertised as low as 41k dealer price. Then again, when I bought my Tacoma the advertised dealer price was 2-3K cheaper than what most people on here were able to negotiate.

The MSRP is just a suggested starting point. The real price of a vehicle is determined by market value. The MRSP won't decrease but the market value is constantly decreasing save for a handful of exceptions.

 

Look at the how much you are paying for you 2019 thread. 5k+ off a Tacoma is happening. I remember this forum a few years ago saying you couldn’t get a few thousand off a Tacoma. Now it’s meh. Not saying this is due to the competition though. It’s just how the market is going.

Discounting your product is a slippery slope, and can cause long term damage to the brand. Toyota knows this.

 

Maybe if we are lucky another round of cash 4 clunkers.Lots of inventory piling up on dealer lots and into nearby parking lots.

 

It depends on where you live. Here in the SF Bay Area we’re not seeing huge discounts.

 

Yes, from what I am seeing.

I got about $3,000 off MSRP. And reading what other forum members are posting, that seems to be the going price right now.

BTW, Kelly Blue Book is completely off. It overestimated my Jeep’s trade in value by $5,000, and underestimated my Tacoma discount by at least $1,500. According to them, other Tacoma buyers in my area are paying $1,500 below MSRP, including a $750 factory rebate. I got twice that much off. It’s always good to double check.

 

It’s true that Toyota is discounting a few k on Taco’s and Tundra’s these days if you deal, but you have to remember that the other guys are discounting even bigger than that with no push. My Dad just brought a brand new 2019 Ram 1500 for 14k off MSRP, and he didn’t even push.

 

When have car manafacturs ever cut the MSRP on any model? Never thats when.

I don't think it would help thier stock if they priced a new model cheaper than last years. Stockholders would be running for the door.
