Procomp 6" lift install tips...

My buddy and I are going to tear into my truck tonight, start removing "stuff" and getting it ready for a stage-1 procomp lift, which we'll spend our weekend installing. I've read a lot of threads on the install and am trying to research as much as possible before-hand.

Any Tips or Tricks you can suggest that make the install easier? any unneccessary steps that people normally take that don't need to be done? any additional steps that aren't normally done that SHOULD be done?

Any general or specific help/insight is much appreciated. I'm PYSCHED!

 

just make sure you have a BFH on hand. And just making sure, you do have a welder right?

 

haha BFH being a "extremely large hammer" right? and yeah I have a mig welder, but isn't the entire kit bolt on, aside from cutting the cross-member out? what will need to be welded?

 

yes...an extremely large hammer. lol. And when you cut the cross member, you have to weld plates on the cut pieces to cap them. I have never installed one but i had my entire front end apart after my mishap at hollister hills.

I wonder if the kit comes with weld plates.. I haven't pulled everything out of the boxes yet.

nice, I'm from Fresno originally, just a couple hours from Hollister. My brother-in-law is from Hollister so I've made many trips there, gonna have to hit the hills once I move back down to Fresno, I'm in central WA state at the moment

 

Nice nice. Ya there should be plates in the box. Is this a new or used kit? If you look at the rear xmember, look at the diff mount hole, make sure it is gusseted. If it is not, get ahold of fabtech and get a new one that is gusseted.

 

Sounds good, its a new kit, I just haven't dug through everything yet, thats what tonight and tomorrow night after work are for, before really hitting it this weekend. thanks for the tip on the gusseting, I'll make sure to check that.

 

Ok, then it should be gusseted already. That is what broke on mine.

 

Also wondering, I've got wheels and tires sitting at discount tire waiting for me... Once the lift is on, can I put my stock wheels and tires back on and drive it to the shop to get my new ones put on? Or do I need to pick up the new ones with the 4.5" backspacing and put those on to drive it over to the alignment shop. I'm getting the alignment done after putting on the new wheels and tires haha FYI just in case anyone was gonna rip me a new one on that...

 

If you do drive with the stockers on i want pics cause it is going to look funny as hell. lol

 

Haha true that! luckily the shop is only 3 miles away... so I'll only look like a dumb ass for less than 10 minutes

Kinkrider why don't you think it will work? do you have to have enough backspacing for them to fit or something?

 

Do you happen to have a pic of a gussetted on.e I have a used kit that I am putting on in two weeks and If its not gusseted, I will do so before i put it on,

How long ago did they change the design?

Bump. Does anyone know FOR SURE whether or not I can throw stock rims and tires back on after the 6" procomp stage 1 is installed?

 

That is a good question that I had. I think not because I dont think you will clear the tie rods, but I am not sure

Man this is quite the install... haha I knew it was a huge project but for some reason I thought we could finish it in a weekend working on it for 12 hours both days.

Rear suspension is complete. Front is completely torn down, crossmember has been cut out, and the two big drop brackets have been bolted up... and thats where our progress stopped last night! I'm hoping to get it done at night after work this week, maybe another 8-10 hours and we should be good.

It's looking sweet already though with just the back done and new wheels and tires on there, I just hold my hand out and block my view of the front of the truck and its beautiful lol
