You’re on the right track for sure - cutting out the foods that mess your gut up is key. Milk product do me in as well unless it’s a weekly treat/cheat meal. I never touch protein powder either - most will upset the stomach, I found a few that aren’t BAD on my stomach (plant based), but they weren’t neutral either.

Another big thing was eliminating “healthy” carbs that irritate the gut. Oatmeal, brown rice, etc have lecithins (aka anti-nutrients) that can and often do disrupt gut function and cause gas/bloating. Why you’ll notice they fill you up fast and often leave you feeling full and sleepy. I use white rice the most often and veggies/fruits my stomach likes for micronutrients. Cheat meals though are whatever my heart desires lol, but it’s only one or two meals per week in social settings so I can still have a life and not look like a total douche carrying around meal prep containers lol.

Your gut should be able to handle that fine once your diet is spot on 90% of the time with foods that never cause issues and promote gut healing (no inflammation).

I’m not saying this FOR SURE will work for you, but considering how bad my IBS was, here’s what I eat daily.

    Beef (usually lean 93/7)
    Salmon
    Chicken
    White rice
    Mixed veggies
    Mixed fruits
    Avocado

If I eat outside that, it’s a cheat meal wherever I want. 2-3x per week max - and usually my day off from the gym and work so I can be around my family and not be “that guy.” You can totally ad variation if you find more foods do you good not bad - I just like to keep it simple. I can make 4 days worth of food in 30min so it’s convenient.

Your advice has limitations. You crossed the line and for the folks not competing you don't have a leg to stand on..even with your broken foot. The youngsters that want to pump iron and be healthy should definitely be weary of a someone that added illegal drugs...the side effect and short term enticement ain't no joke.. it is a marathon not a Sprint. To each his own...

    1. I never once promoted drugs, nor will I. If someone is too dumb to blindly make a decision like that simply because I’m not denying my own use, that’s on them. No one should be using illegal substances thinking there is no risk - but I’m also not going to claim “natural” to make guys like you happy - I’d be lying.

    2) “Crossed the line” lmfao. Dude I apologized because it was a LITTLE brash, I don’t give two shits about that imaginary line in your head.. My info is still very accurate even for people who don’t compete. I even said I DONT COMPETE anymore, but I follow what I preach daily still in regards to diet because it’s a basic level concept - really common sense. If all you’re taking from my posts is “he’s mean” and “using hormones” that’s pretty sad man. But do not accuse me of promoting substances, that’s just petty and untrue.

Again - as I said above multiple times lol - you can test this simple idea natural or enhanced. OF COURSE it won’t be as fast as someone enhanced, that doesn’t make me any less right, especially when I already made the disclaimer than obviously with hormones it’s faster, duH!

This is all basic physiology of the body anybody can utilize - men and women - not something solely for competitors and not something I made up or take credit for. I’ve said that several times now in previous posts how basic level it is. Literally get as lean as you can, then try to “bulk” “clean gain” whatever you want to call it from there. Simple. I don’t know anyone’s body on here, so you’ll notice I didn’t say “low carb” or low anything because we are all different. What we DONT differ in - is the simple fact that we ALL grow better/faster the leaner we start. How you get there for YOUR body type is an entirely different subject and exclusive to your body alone.

Ps - I never even mentioned hormones until someone ELSE dropped that in. 90% what I’ve mentioned has been diet and digestion related.. and for a good reason.

When I said cross the line I meant taking drugs.. You look good! Young people can get the wrong impression and want to jump on that boat right away instead of putting in the time which obviously I know you have done regardless.. Did you go pro? Are you still making money? Or are you the ripped guy that served me my coffee this morning?

Lol, me writing out thorough paragraphs doesn’t mean I’m “mad” ahaha. I just like explaining things how I’d like someone to explain to me - so it makes as much sense as possible.

Did not go pro, like I said - I don’t promote drug use. Wanna know why? Too much of them made me feel awful I decided it wasn’t worth my health to push to be pro. Some guys genetically can handle the sides, I can’t. Most guys can’t for what it takes to become a pro - I don’t have the genetics for it and had to be honest about it for my future. Not good for you and thus I’d never promote them- again I’m simply honest about my personal choices during a time when I was chasing a dream. I’ve moved on while still trying to look my best AND be as healthy as possible.

I never made money from it - most don’t unless top tier guys winning big shows. It’s a passion for the sport as to why a lot of guys do it, not for the money. Sounds dumb, kinda is, but it’s something some dudes are drawn to. I was/still am but have to be realistic and smart(er) if it’s just not in the cards with health suffering. The guys who run through those red flags and ignore side effects, are the ones with major issues down the road.

Lmfao, nope. I own a custom/safe vault company, but I probably drink just as much coffee as that dude (ALOT) lol.

Typically it seems high sugary foods get me (like donuts) but, I can't have 1 damn donut I eat like 4 in 30 mins... ugh. This is why I don't put myself in those environments (evil donut environment) lol. Also greasy foods it mainly seems, but it's hard to pinpoint maybe what is INSIDE that causing the issue - is it a specific oil? is it just too much fat consumption at once? etc etc

Edit: Even sushi gets me sometimes...

Edit2: The diet I am on now has been pretty safe to my gut (potatoes, beef, rice, veggies, eggs, some fruit)

I like your current diet. Have you been tested for gluten sensitivity? I’m above average intolerant to it and it definitely plays with my stomach if I have it too often.

Give this a shot just to see maybe how you do: grab a gluten free pizza, or donut, etc - something that would normally have gluten in it. I notice my stomach isn’t nearly as screwed up if at all.

    Sugar
    High crappy fat/oils
    Gluten
    Dairy

^those 4 together if you have stomach issues will usually trigger it for sure.

My wife has Celiac so I primarily eat gluten free as it’s easier for the house (I do most of the cooking). My usual diet is eggs, potatoes, chicken, rice, beef. I do eat a pop tart everyday after my workout , which obviously has gluten in it. But when it comes to pizza or sandwiches I always go with gluten free because she is likely eating it too. So now whenever I have a cheat and I go hard on gluten my stomach is always messed up. On Thursday I had to go to a family dinner and it was catered at an Italian restaurant. Pizza, pasta, bread, all the gluten. I shat 5x before 9am on Friday :bananadead:

I’ve struggled with increasingly bad GI issues for the past 5 years.
It was REALLY bad at first because I couldn’t figure out what was making me sick so I was accidentally consuming it.

I eventually had to do an elimination diet and do zero processed foods for 60 days then slowly reintroduce foods one at a time.

I’ve generally figured out what upsets me but its still a great mystery on some things. They put so many chemicals, additives, and preservatives in or foods it becomes impossible to really figure some things out.

Like I cannot have pasta more than about twice a month or I just start feeling miserable and start having issues (constipation, pain, and some abd distension). But I can drink beer no problem. So its not gluten but not sure what it is.

Anything with sugar more than occationally and I’m sick. I also get joint pain.

Last year I had illitis (inflamation in my small bowel) that was misery. Basically the cure was stress reduction, a colonoscopy prep to clear everything out, a heavy dose of probiotics and just stop eating junk.

Its been hard to figure out the exact causes.

I wish gut issues were easier to address.

Edit: the only accurate way to test for gluten sensitivity is with a biopsy. There are no accurate blood tests.

Yup! I can get away with a little more than you in regards to gluten, but honestly the gluten free stuff I tried was so damn good tasting anyways that I simply eat it to take stress off my system if its available.

I think most people have some gluten sensitivity - although it obviously varies in severity . I think we can all agree though if you're having bad gas/bloating/shits, there's an issue somewhere that needs to be addressed and there's nothing wrong with removing gluten if it makes you feel better.

I removed it ENTIRELY for months and now that my gut is healed from my daily diet i mentioned above (low to no inflammatory foods), I can handle dinners/lunches out with friends and family without an issue.

Alcohol also would screw me and still does a little if I drink a little too much - though I chalk that up to the beating i gave my liver from oral steroids - took a long time to heal.

    Gut issues suck for sure!!!

Given the amount of gluten in our foods has increased ten fold in the last 20 years due to processing I agree with that.

I’m also a believer that the chemicals we put in our food are slowly killing all of us lol. I think I’m fortunate enough to not be able to tolerate it so I stay away.

    Amen to that!

i'm more health conscious than ever after deciding to step away from competing - my diet has been the biggest factor. Sucks sometimes to have to cut tasty foods out, but nothing sucks more than having a messed up stomach and running to the bathroom at the most inconvenient times ever.. the worst way to live and IMO not worth it. Glad to see others doing the same!

As long as beer never gives me trouble I’m ok with giving up just about anything else.

Plus when you eat crap regularly... you feel like crap. I like feeling better.

Doing keto is probably when I felt the best... but god damn it I could never get into ketosis, so I gave up. I just stick to low carb now.

You can get the pee sticks.
Your breath and sweat will start to smell more and you should start dropping weight.

I averaged 23g of net carbs per day over 28 days... I noticed no change and started gaining weight.

I have been told by the more experienced if you are lower BF and athletic you may have to drop to like 15g net carbs per day or less and eat pretty much pure fat for 7-10 days to get kicked in... yeah thats tough.

I quit basically because I can’t eat enough veggies on it. I will consistently get over 30g carbs per day on vegetables.
