Considering all the competitors are more expensive, no

    Toyota is still outselling everyone

I’ll bet. But I’ll also bet the MSRP on that Ram was insane, right?

Toyota did just that for many years when it introduced a new Camry: the MSRP on the new one was $200 - $250 below that of the outgoing model. It provided Toyota amazing headlines.

Of course Toyota omitted the fact that it had raised Camry prices each of the 5 prior years...

Fair point, sticker was 63k I believe. It’s the high end Limited version with the air suspension, Tesla style screen etc.

The stranger part is this: that’s also the MSRP of a well-equipped Jeep Gladiator! Before markup!

It’s insane! The local scumbag dealer has a lifted one with 35’s marked up to like 76k. Stock ones are only marked up to 70k lol. They weren’t pleased when I told them the dealer added markup was a tax on stupidity, I got a whole lecture about fair profit etc. This is the same dealer that has left over 18’ Wrangler Sports marked up 6k.

This year the Tacoma has broken sales records every month, so I don't see the prices coming down.

New competition keeps coming out, and the Taco's sales keep increasing. lol

So you got $3000 off your Tacoma but they gave you $5000 less for your Jeep trade in? Sounds like you got played...

When I bought my Tacoma we agreed on the price but it took me 3 more days and some phone calls by them each day to get what I wanted for my trade .

Nope. Re-read. I got more for my trade and still got $3,000 off my Tacoma.

I re-read it and it says you got $5K less than KBB for your trade and that's where they got you .

You say KBB overestimated your trade in value by 5k. How is getting 5k less then the KBB trade in value "got more"?

Sounds like you payed $2000 over MSRP for your Tacoma.

    Overestimate = estimate above.

Dealer took KBB’s trade-in value, which was too high.

I wanted 25K for my trade and got 24K but with the tax break it was $25,500 and they listed it for $26,200 . I could have sold it easy outright but I would rather trade it in and let them deal with it .

So did the dealer give you KBB trade in Value for your trade in or 5k less? you never said what they gave you just that the kbb value was 5k high.

They didn't give you $5K to much for your Jeep , that's where they make their money is on the used inventory .

    Ah, I see the confusion.

    Let me explain:
    • KBB shows a trade-in value of $40,000 for my 2018 JKU
    • I check online listings: used Jeeps similar to mine are selling for $40,000
    • KBB shows Tacoma’s average transaction price around here $1,500 below MSRP, including a $750 factory rebate
Long story short, dealer agrees to a trade-in of $39,000 for the Jeep, and a selling price on the Tacoma (MSRP $41,170) of $37,000, tax and license included.

The dealer, believing KBB’s trade in value, parks the Jeep in front of the lot with a sign for $47,000.

The Jeep sits there for one month. Dealer drops the price down to $45,000. Two weeks later it drops the price down again to $43,000.

Two months after the transaction, in an apparent act of desperation, the dealer advertises the Jeep for $38,750, which is probably very close to what they took the Jeep in for trade. At that price the Jeep sells right away.

Dealers rarely lose money. I believe Toyota must be offering additional dealer incentives on Tacoma, not visible to consumers, that made the deal work. That’s how dealers are routinely able to take $3,000 off.

I have bought and sold many vehicles. I have never seen Kelly Blue Book so off as this time.

KBB is nowhere near what the ACV is for a car or truck anymore.
