It sounds like a dealer thing. Years ago, I was in the market for a Subaru WRX. The largest WRX dealer in North America just happened to be where I lived (in Colorado Springs). They wouldn't even let you test drive a WRX without pulling your credit to see if you were in good standing and could finance the car. Drive an hour North to Denver, the dealer there gives you the key fob and lets you test-drive without the salesman. Point: find another dealer.

First thing I would do is delete those tacky decals. Proof even the Germans feel they have to put cheesy badges on things to show everyone you’re a pro or whatever.

Cool car otherwise. I’m sure it rips.

Speaking of which, is “cheese grater” trade marked?

I picked it up on here and have been using it at will. It’s the perfectest description.

This. Why not find a pro on the lot, snap a pic of the VIN and walk in and reference that VIN to get your part?

Between this and jeeps, I think the universal corny olympics has been in session, which has brought “unique tastes” to TW lately.

“Intelectual Property” rights can be abused, too. I remember years ago Jeep was suing Hummer to stop it from using the 7-slot grille. Jeep argued that the 7-slot grille was copywrited and belonged to them and, thus, no one could use it. Thankfully, the suit was thrown out.

The same is true of speed limits. For twenty-five years we were forced to drive at 55 MPH for reasons that had nothing to do with speed —including collecting gobs of revenue in fines, and lobbying money from insurers.

But goes to show that just because there’s a law or an intellectual property right, it has to make sense.

The issue with the TRD Pro grille in particular is, as some have already pointed out, that it is a giant piece of molded plastic not worth anywhere near the $400 Toyota wants to charge for it. If Toyota charged a more realistic price and dealers didn’t play so many games, more Tacoma owners would be willing to step up and buy the genuine part.

If Toyota really didn’t want the Pro grille on any other Tacomas, all it’d have to do is change the way it clips onto the front of the truck. But that would cost them money.

You go to the dealer and peruse the new vehicles for sale and snag a TRD Pro vin and use that to order parts.

That's what I would recommend if you were cheating the system.

Not that I would know about that.

Its unfortunate, but its seems to be the norm for the 3rd gen section. It is not like this in the 1st and 2ncd gen sections. The average age (thus maturity, culture, entitlement, etc) in the 3rd gen section is probably lower in comparison and might (just a guess) be the cause of the non-community attitude.

People should remember TW is a community and stop shitting on other members. Fuck, no wonder Jberry temporarily banned the entire 3rd gen section.

Hear are some good reads for the FEW of you who ruin it for the rest of the 3rd genners:

Hmmm...IDK, I’ve only been here two months and regularly see 1st and 2nd gen owners come on here to stir the pot. I don’t go on the 1st or 2nd gen forums, so I can’t say whether the reverse is true.

But just the fact that 3rd gen owners are buying new vehicles, with new features, many have existing warranties, and still making payments, dictates that the discussions are going to be different. The discussions on 1st and 2nd gen forums, I imagine, deal more with how to replace the spark plugs or the water pump.

I love this place. My build and skillset wouldn't be where its at without it. I know little, but from my reading of mods posts (linked above), and the entire 3rd gen section being temp banned for such comments, comments such as yours and some of the above are not what TW is about. I don't have to be around long to understand that.

Its Saturday man. Relax and enjoy it.

The topic caught my attention and against better judgement I clicked. Your right, that was my mistake. I did not intend on stirring the pot however. If it came off that way ... my apologies. For those that come in the 3rd gen section to do so, that is unfortunate and my original post applies to them too. TW is a positive community for all, regardless of what taco you are fortunate enough to own, mod, build, etc.. your right about dictating discussions, my comment was to shitting on fellow members despite what the discussion is. I should of just minded my business and ignored the members shitting on others.

Anyways good luck OP. I posted a link to a TW member that sells OEM parts for cheap.
