As most people already know, starting 7/1/19 the State of CA will require a background check on all ammunition purchases. What I just found out, the new Law will restrict the caliber of the ammunition you purchase to the caliber of the firearm that is registered to you, You will pay for the background check . Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like the gun shops in Yuma and Las Vegas are about to make a mint on ammo sales.

Its no wonder its no wonder called The Golden State.... too many rules and regulations. I have family there and they keep telling me to come back, no thanks. I live in Ohio, and it still has blue laws, but, have a great job and no need to go back to crazy place.

More to OP’s point though. I haven’t read anywhere in Prop 63 where it states your ammo purchase has to match the caliber of the guns registered to you.

Are There Limits on Ammo Purchases?
Currently, there are no restrictions on the amount of ammunition you can purchase after you pass the eligibility check.

Am I Limited to the Calibers I Own?
Currently, there are no restrictions on buying calibers of ammunition you do not own.

Can I Make my Own Ammo?
There is nothing in the provisions of Prop. 63 that regulates reloading components (powders, primers, projectiles/bullets). Reloading components are not governed by the laws created by Prop 63, however, the leadership of CA could likely come after reloading components in the future.
