The other day the dealership wanted $360 after taxes for a maintenance package. It consisted of the tire rotation, checking and adjustments to the front and back brake pads, synthetic oil change, and a 100 point inspection plus a inside and out wash/clean.

I almost shit my pants. I voiced my opinion and the technician said “let me see what I can do here. You have yet to have your brakes serviced and you should, gimme a second” ... anyways I dunno what he did but the $360 went down to $240 with taxes. Plus I got a Toyota Bluetooth speaker lol.

Anyone else have any cool stories???

I hate to be negative... but you still got robbed.

My mechanic does all that for free. All I’d have to pay for is the oil change and I do that myself.

This is why I don’t go to dealers for routine service.

A always say no to the car wash. You’ll get “dealer installed swirls”.

Never ceases to amaze me. Only useful thing they done was tire rotation. Brakes can be checked yourself. Oil change yourself. Wash and clean yourself. All for about 50 bucks. 100 point inspection get real.

Negative. If you can check your brake pads/shoes (properly) you can rotate your tires... from what you’re saying

I got a free alignment. Just cuz. I told them I put in those toytec 1/2” spacers and I wanted to dial it in, and they did it. We have a hunter at our shop, so I could have just done in on my time, but they hooked it up on a simple tire rotation. I like my dealership. I’ll never need them most likely, but they’ve been good to me.

A “brake adjustment” is a cleaning/adjusting of your brake shoes (parking brake) and lubing the pins/guides on your brake calipers so they don’t seize. Duh

IF YOU KEEP VEHICLES FOR MANY YEARS .
I agree . If you can do anything on the truck yourself and are competent in doing it , you will be sure it is done right . The simple maint. things mentioned are done by the lowest paid people there . The easiest things for maint. done are often the ones done incorrectly like over tightening the filter housing , or over/ under filling the oil , or forgetting the oil all together , under /over torqueing the wheels etc. .
Once I can no longer do it myself , I would rather pay someone I can trust to do it right . My Dad is 84 and he still changes his own oil ! It will be a hard legacy to follow for me .

If I have to live until I’m 84, I hope I can change my own oil. I’d call that good.

I went in for the free oil changes, but not anything else. The 4 or 5 times I went in, they scratched my paint 2 different times, messed with my stereo system, saw the tech drop it in drive while still rolling backwards out of the bay, stole change, left grease on the inside of the door and didn't have the common sense to put my valve stem caps back on after checking the air. They don't care about your truck.

    I did.
It was weird. The guy wanted to take me out for drinks. A few hours later we ended up in my back seat. Boyz to men was playing, I think his finger ended up in my butt. Idk wtf happened.

I got a free air freshener though.

I am totally joking. No, no service guy ever hooked me up. Although I have felt pretty raped at the Harley dealership before. Broke as fuck.

I agree with you. Lol I had to finish reading this first page before responding. If these guys think the small shops won’t rip them off then... a free Toyota Bluetooth speaker would be cool

Nope. They even thought they were gonna charge me for the tsb for the transmission stumble, but showed them the paperwork. You better buy some lottery tickets if even toyota is cutting you deals.
