Threads always ask about high mileage and everyone usually responds with how many trouble free miles and what oil or maintenance they do, etc.

Who has actually had to do major engine or transmission repairs? What was the mileage and the reason, if you know? (Not car accidents)

Had an engine replaced with right at 200k I hydrolocked it my own fault. If I hadn't done that then it would still be trucking right along.

Toyota’s are pretty stout...never any real “major” issues that aren’t related to piss poor care and asshat drivers.

Even a torque converter would not truly fall into “major” issues.

Them Japanese know how to build stuff that refuses to fail......unless it is Nissan and Mitsubishi....

There are exceptions, like everything else.

Had my front differential sieze up at 95K miles. Diff gear oil had been changed every 30K miles as recommended and engaged 4WD monthly.

Aside from that, it's been normal maintenance stuff and I've never been stranded.

at 60K i was changing the spark plugs on my 2014. Valve cover gasket was leaking - don't count it as major in any way, but surprising at such low mileage. Going to see if Toyota might cover it since truck is only at 62.3k.

i had to replace front driver wheel bearing asdembly at 70k miles. and some idler pully bearings w/serpintine belt.

replaced a plastic water bypass line with a steel one around 170k miles.

then the frame replacement happened...stil have not fixed all the stuff they broke yet.

The same shit everyone else has.
Biggest thing on my truck has been front wheel bearings/hubs at roughly 115k miles.

Throw out bearing’s been chripy since about 110k miles.

Hard brake line "went out" on a morning drive home from work at 87k. May have been a disgruntled co worker though... I am not the most well liked at the facility I work in.

Luckily not me. 2010 with +140,000 miles and not one repair, just a lot of maintenance. Even the frame has held up in Maryland salt/snow.

Mine had a seep going on for a long ass time. It may have started as far back as 100K, I don't know. I just know all of a sudden it bothered me. The 4.0 Tacomas have a thing about that passenger side gasket. Probably not all of them, but definitely more than the ususal number developed a valve cover gasket leak on the passenger side.

Interesting. I actually just posted a thread on this asking for advice help. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/advice-needed-oil-in-spark-plug-tube.614856/ I did not realize the passenger side was a common leak.

130k and the only repair has been replacing a knock sensor at 90k. That was due to a rat getting in the engine bay and chewing the wires on the harness.

    Other than that, nadda.

I'd be very curious to see what the brake line looked like if you even have a remote thought of it being a disgruntled coworker.
As for my repairs... Motor at 238k. Other than that it's been maintenance items.
