Anyone one had their Eaton TRD Supercharger, ported + Polishing

Yup I see that now,
Here are the difference between yours 2nd gen and mine 1st gen ported and 1st gen before porting.
Unfortunately the 2nd gen can’t be opened up for the top section.
The outside ears section are a bunch larger, (taller) 1/2? on the ported 1st gen.

what’s the OD on the needle bearings? Because it’s about half that in height.

 

Not sure, my charger is not apart, that’s why I put a ? mark,
If you add the increase airflow from all three areas that are ported spinning at 15,000 rpms it will add up to more airflow, less boost, more power, win win.
There is NO standards for porting measurements. Each company probably is a little different
on how much or what type porting and each engine setup will be a bit different with end performance.
The 2nd gen porting results would be less because the one piece casting

 

I don't know how I missed this but your photos are invaluable! I'm going to try my hand at porting my newer black TRD unit, I get that I can't port the intake runner but opening up the rotor housing a little should help. I also have an over-bored throttle body and a host of other stuff. I tried running the 2.0" pulley but gain no boost or power and I think it's the airflow that was holding me back (have bigger injectors, piggyback and meth). I won't go as aggressive on mine, just enough to flow more air.

What size methanol nozzle do you use?

 

You've found the right source of experience to ask, that's for sure. Experience is such a valuable tool. Theory only gets you so far and real world is usually pretty different from the theoreticals.

thank, yes I’ve tried lots of different situations.
I think I have 7 different supercharger pulleys that I have tried from stock to 1.9.

I have seen numerous posts of people that have had little to no gains using a 2.0 pulley and
some that had little gains at the 2.1.
In order for gain power the fuel and air flow and timing are your inputs.
Any options that opens up air flow will add more power.
I’m sure you can get some gains.
The TRD supercharger design is limited in airflow by design,
It’s a great add on for a truck, it’s not a race car .

I’m experimenting with the 1.9 pulley right now. I’m getting great power with it
at 275hp about ball park and max boost at 12.5 at 6000 feet.

At sea level the boost would be much higher making 15 and probably 300 at the wheel.

The 1.9 pulley I think is at the limits of the bearings at the higher rpms,
So I will see what happens after a full supercharger rebuild.

I was running a 3 nozzle with the 2” pulley then decided to replace the fuel pump.

Nothing was wrong with the fuel pump that I was aware of but my end results were
that I dropped down to a 1 nozzle. So the fuel pump wears over time not giving full
pressure at full rpms and there’s no way to test this at WOT.

I have a funny situation with a defective MAF that I’m using that some how is giving me
more power than the stock MAF. The defective MAF needs my to run a 6 nozzle to keep my
AFR happy and for whatever reason this situation makes the truck haul. I think it’s
helping on the timing side.
So will see how long term goes on both these situations.

 

Where did you purchase your 1.9" pulley? I have a Pulleyboys 2.0" pulley but I'm not impressed by it. Makes boost but it's extremely difficult to take on or off since it sits flush on the snout and I don't like using a 3 jaw puller on the inside of the pulley surface as opposed to the supergrip pulleys which have a deep well, making them easy to take on or off with little to no belt slip.

I'm running a 225ml/min injector which is 3.5 gallons per hour so that sounds consistent with my experience.

 

You just need to get a different puller setup,
The pulley boy pulley is MUCH better than the URD.

URD DOES NOT have a coating that can take any belt wear. Typical the URD pulleys will wear out and slip in 30,000 or so if I remember for me anyways.

Pulley boys have a harden finish that will show little wear.
Your shaft key maybe hanging up the pulley because I don’t have that problem.
The URD pulley guaranteed will have wear issues in wearing out and you will have slipping issues.

I have 3 URD pulleys that are all worn out with belt slipping marks.
Personally I would NOT recommend the URD pulleys.
These pulleys have around 30,000 and they are no good.
You can see the belt burn marks and NO protection on the aluminum centers were
the belt rides as it wears it smaller and the belt rides on the edges and less contact
in the center of the pulley which makes the belt slip

 

Yeah I've seen that. My 2.1" pulley is from 1320 Performance, a local shop near me. Same design but cheaper price and better finish. Did you have your 1.9" pulley custom made? I've never seen one for sale but would be very interested in trying one.

 

If the pulley is not advertised as having a hard coated anodized coating finish it will not go the distance.
Pulley boys pulleys have this finish, they don’t look as cool as the URD pulley tho, but they will last much longer.
URD pulleys have a finish but it’s not harden anodized and the finish were the belt is will
wear off quickly exposing the soft aluminum that will wear out.
There is NO 1.9 pulley made for the TRD supercharger. You have to fine someone who will make you one..

 

Thank you again for the photos. I tried my hand at a hand port job, focusing on the mating surface between the supercharger & maxbore.com throttle body, and the inlet. The outlet was too hard to port, I marred the surface a few times. The angle with my Dremel, even with the flex shaft, was too sharp. For reference I used steel carbide bits and this is on a 4th Gen (Black) TRD supercharger. Other than that, I'm pleased on how it came out and expect better airflow. I also shaved down 4 vacuum ports that protruded way too far into the housing.

For porting, I have not found any published information for what is best for efficiency and flow except one paper by eaton for their tvs superchargers. It shows the optimal port and explains how the ratio of the inlet to the outlet area should be based on the ratio of pressure that the supercharger will be run at.
