First tank through with AFE filter/secondary filter removed...no hugely noticeable improvement in MPG. Before the change I was averaging 22.8...1st tank yielded 22.97.

Still worth the purchase to not buy paper filters for the life of the truck...IMHO.

Truck does seem quicker off the line with less clutch effort (not sure if that's the right term)...all of that might be placebo effect. Or maybe I'm just getting back into practice with the manual...it's been about 4 years since I drove a manual on a daily basis. ;)

My 2009 2WD Access initially got 31mpg. I checked this again and again, but always got great mileage with careful HWY driving, keeping the RPMs under 2000 (between 55-60 MPH) . Then the mileage recently dropped to 26, to my disappointment. In west Texas, we have a windy season that brings up so much dust that it drops visibility. I Changed the air filter, even though it wasn't due for it, and just measured 32 MPG on a recent HWY trip. I also use synthetic oil, elevated tire pressure. Premium gas doesn't seem to make much difference. I have a slightly elevated ARE cam peer shell, and that may help the aerodynamics also. I know these numbers seem unreal, but I get them consistently.

My '06 V6 pulls noticeably harder off the line since I (1) installed the AFE CAI, the PRO dry washable filter, and replaced the stock exhaust w/ 2 1/2" pipe to the FlowMaster 50 series muffler. After all these years I FINALLY have my MT back...love that clutch. No air restriction from tongue to tail.

Does anybody have any mpg comparisons between a AFE Pro Dry VS URD CAI and MAF sensor? I'm looking at doing a CAI mod for the benefit of the increase in MPG, if I get extra horsepower, that's just a plus.

I have a 2010 4x4 DC LB auto V6, averaging 17-19mpg, 50/50 highway and in town, keep rpms under 2k.

you guys are killing me with this 23-26 mpg talk...my `07 can't get any better than 18 mpg...and I drive mostly freeway to and from work. I'll try that drop in filter, but I can't see it giving me another 5-7mpg. I've tried driving 'like there's an egg under the pedal' and nothing changed. I've moseyed off the line on a green light instead of taking off like I used to...no change.

If you're still running the 6" lift and 33" tires listed in your profile, then I think I know what your problem is. :D

HAHAHA...yeah, I know. I should have been more precise. When I had my 07 Access Cab (stock in every way), I couldn't do better than 19 mpg. Which is why I thought that it was odd that with a 6" lift/33" tires that I average 18 mpg (sometimes worse).

I put a BakFlip tonneau cover on my truck and improved my highway mileage by 3MPG. I am sure that other tonneaus that smooth out the air will work, but not if they add too much weight to the equation like most of the 350lb tilt covers do. My BakFlip only weighs 35lbs!

Only problem was they used a Dakota with an 8' bed and a fiberglass tonneau - I really think a cloth tonneau would have yielded different results!

I really don't think the weight difference matters at all once you're underway at highway speeds (which is where they tested). The airflow doesn't care if the tonneau is made of cloth or fiberglass.

I put in an AFE Pro Dry last week and could actually notice a difference, removed the secondary filter today and didn't really hear/feel a change. Hopefully it will be reflected in the mileage I get...
