    Here in Cali the plate stays with the vehicle. The first vehicle I purchased out here was a 88 Toyota Van. I saw it and called the guy. Test drove it and bought it. I give him the cash and he gives me the title. Then I'm sitting there waiting for him to pull his plates. He starts to get in his car and I ask him if he wants his plates. He gives me this dumb look. It's a look I'm very used to since it's Cali but this one was slightly different. Then he explains to me the plates stay with the vehicle. WTF? Really?

    This was on a weekend so I couldn't call DMV and ask. I had him wait while I got online and verified his statement. He was right. lol

    DMV issued (regular) plates stay with the vehicle. I don't believe this is true with personalized plates. I bough an FJ-40 from a lady a few years back and her personalized plates stayed on the rig but the DMV issued new plates. A couple of years prior to this I sold a 4Runner and kept my personal plates.
