Loosen your lower control arm cam bolts and it will go right in without that weird jack setup you have going on.

I don’t have time to mess with getting an alignment again before my trip. The weird jack setup was trying to compress the spring against the truck weight while my body weight was pushing down on the steering knuckle/LCA. I am NOT removing the LBJ due to paranoia of having ANOTHER thing go wrong before my trip in a few days and I have to run around looking for parts.

I got the spring compressor to work well enough for one side. Moving onto the other.

Well, I'm not dead and the truck is back together. I HATE THOSE SPRING COMPRESSORS.

Tightens unevenly, pinches the socket so you can't get it off. Loosen it a little, switch sides. Repeat 5,000,000 times. Realize that the pieces that hold onto the coil are too thick and have smashed and broken the plastic cover for the OME shock. F-it. remove broken plastic. Oh great, it slid around a little bit so now the shock is off-center. Push. Push harder. Push really hard and slip top hat on. S***. Not enough thread exposed. Tighten up more. Pinch socket again. Repeat. Get it together. Realize that the shock body rotated and now you can't get it into the truck without rotating against the 600lb coil. Can't do it by hand. Wrap a strap around it, twist it tight with a 19mm box wrench. Rotate too far. Go back (to far). F-it. Shove it in and tap the bolt back in with a screwdriver inserted in the other end to keep things aligned.

Repeat on other side. Lose 6 hours of your life. Drive home, still hear noises (likely because the top hats were bored out from a missing washer) and immediately start browsing the threads to figure out which brand of coilovers to buy.

same story for me but when my wife said, "I think some bigger tires would look good, and maybe a lift too" I could have sworn I heard the angels choir go off. Picked up a lift kit from @Toytec Lifts there over the weekend, hard to say no to the discounts they were running. All you can do is hug them, say I love you, and then go hide before they can take it back!

I had a 2nd Gen Tacoma and a 1st and 3rd Gen 4rnr. Nature took the Tacoma to parts heaven after two massive hail storms. I sold the 4Runrs. and they were gutless. So far I would say my 3rd Gen Tacoma (AT) runs circles around my 2nd Gen Tacoma (6sd MT). Yes I had to re-gear (via Brian) and I added the Tune. Now has plenty of power, shifts great, pulls the camper fine, and gets way better (4 mpg city and 6mpg highway) than my 2nd Gen did. If there was an option for Turbo, SC, or Diesel for this truck it would outsell the F150 hands down - but obviously there are not those options, yet. Had two Silverado Z71's -they both shit the bed just after warranty went out - never again for Chevy. Never a Ford or Dodge fan and not interest in Nissan. Guess I'm almost out of options. :) :(

I wish I could have made it out there. Right as I pulled out, my dog had a seizure, so that killed those plans. He just started having them, and we're trying to figure out the right dosage to control them.

But on a bright note, my wife gave me a father's day card and it had a little note in it. The note, "good for 1 lift kit of your choice". I had shown her a picture of a lifted 4Runner that was at our neighborhood rec center a week or so ago, and she said that looks good, you should do something like that. There must be something in the air!
