Oh man I hope not. Again, wifey's subie has all this crap and I cannot stand it. W cannot fully shut this off, but have to do so every-time we start the vehicle.

I have it in my F150. I don’t even notice it anymore truthfully.

I wouldn’t want it off road. If you paused halfway up or down something and the engine shut down, that would be no bueno. I imagine it will defeatable like the Ford system is.

I would guess that won't come on any Taco's with MT.

This is a "feature" that will absolutely keep me buying a vehicle. I've had this in a rental before. There is NO WAY I would ever buy a vehicle with turned off every time I stopped.

I felt this way. Since my F150 is company truck, that will be replaced in 4 years, I don’t really care about its longevity. With that in mind I let the Auto Stop do its thing. As mentioned, it never crosses my mind anymore. The only time you notice it is when you are stopped and try to steer and realize you have no power steering. The system figures this out and then starts the engine. Same with the A/C. The engine cycles on and off with the A/C compressor.

    I wouldn't want that either.

Sad part is, I think this tech nonsense is here to stay. Hopefully the masses will find fault with these Saftey/Technology features, and the systems will be discontinued.

Reading that article says after a predetermined time it will activate the electronic parking brake, I doubt the 2020 Tacoma will downgrade from the cables to the electronic parking brake

I think a keyed ignition would solve the problem of people exiting their vehicle with out shutting off the engine.

It has its place and works pretty well in the cars I have driven with it. It probably doesn’t belong in an off road vehicle, though. I guess if you can turn it off, it wouldn’t bother me, because, honestly, most of the time, it works pretty well and significantly reduces emissions and somewhat increases gas mileage.

If its an option I will opt not having it. If it's standard option, I guess I will be stuck with it. Most likely, cars/trucks in the future will have this as a standard feature if not already.

I imagine that the big driver for it is emissions control. The standards are getting tougher and this is a pretty easy approach. The technology has been around for quite a while in the hybrids.

Yeah, its been around for a long time. I had a old Lexus hybrid which had that feature.

This is not the auto start/stop I think most of you are thinking of. This feature in the article is if a driver leaves the vehicle running for a predetermined period of time, it will shut the vehicle down. This is because many people with push button start leave the vehicle and forget to hit the button and the car is left running while in the garage or you are in the store shopping. This will shut it down to eliminate the vehicle running until you come back or it runs out of gas, or filling your garage/home with exhaust fumes.
The auto start/stop is a completely different feature than what this article is about.

Bingo. Ford has this "feature" but it can be turned off. There is an OBD plugin module that disables/re-enables auto stop for those who cannot press a button each time they drive.
It is my understanding that future vehicles will not be able to turn this feature off. But there will always be a hack to disengage it. IT's a PIA until one gets used to it and presses the disengage button each time it is driven. An extra step.

The article was not about the auto start stop, it was about shutting the truck off and putting it in park after a predetermined time

I just went with the flow. It seemed like there was enough information to go off of by the posts being made... plus, they say not to just click on random links. Safety first, you know.
