My post was not to be ready for Armageddon or to deal with grizzlies. This is my standard carry to ready to respond to a situation.
Be it a C.E.R.T. response or a search.

Because you're in Commiefornia. Get a freaking safe so you can lock that shit up and have it available when you need it. I never leave home without it (mind the airports/post office lest one commits a felony)

You seem to be missing the point. I’m not sure if you are being purposely obtuse or genuinely confused.

‘Prepper’ gets a bad rep and often deservedly (see memes above). I’m an Eagle Scout and I strive to ‘be prepared.’ I don’t anticipate a zombie apocalypse while I’m at work tomorrow. But I still have cash in my bag.

The tank is full (because prepper) but what if I needed gas and a DDoS attack disabled credit card processors in my area? Something else might disable ATMs. Is it a hardship to keep $200 in your truck just in case?

I’m prepared to drive 500 miles North to escape a hurricane. I’m prepared to survive a week long power outage. I’m prepared to survive most of the situations I can envision as possible. If you don’t think that is logical; live your life as you wish.

Well the title of this thread includes the word "survivalist". And thanks for helping prove my point....

Beginning your rant at an anonymous person on the internet with "I'm an eagle scout" is a little dooshy.

My first prepper action: laying in 66 pounds of bacon. Ready now for the DAWN of the Living Dead anyway. With the pork situation in China about to drastically raise the price of anything pork, and with HEB putting their 3 pound packs of hickory/mesquite-smoked bacon on sale for $11.99 I had to lay in a supply. Bought five Friday. Went back after church and made a deal with the cool meat cutter to buy two cases at a price of $3.35/pound. Hell, even without the pork situation in China, that's a darn good price! Pork will be prohibitively expensive in a couple of months, more expensive than beef. Buy it when it is cheap.

You guys in Texas: sale runs through tonight. Get down there and clean them out. Cases of 8 3-pound boxes, each containing three one pound packs of bacon.

So, am I doing this prepper thing right?

Late summer update: This Hickory/MESQUITE smoke curing blend is out of this world. This is THE best bacon I ever ate. HEB also sells it in thick cut, and at times in slab form so you can cut your own. Try it! Get on HEB's website and order some.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

This is very sound advise. I know someone who lost their 06 Tacoma in the Camp Fire last year because he had 1/8th of a tank and their other vehicle had over 1/2 tank. The wife had to leave the tacoma to burn because she knew 1/8th of a tank would not get her to safety.

Never think it can happen that quick... but it did... and it does.

Just one problem, as soon as you start cooking that out in the boonies, everyone from miles around will show up.

    Queue the banjo music...

And that mesquite component to the smoking cure. Beyond comprehension. Get on HEB's website and order some. Sometimes I cook bacon and eggs out on the lake on the JetBoil while anchored up over my crappie brushpiles. Stay out there overnight in the hammock in the boat. The smell wafts over to other boats downwind and I can watch the guys in them swivel their heads trying to follow the fleeting aroma like, "Is that BACON I smell way out here?!!!". Pretty sure I could sell those bacon and egg on toast sandwiches for $20 if I wanted right then.

Ooo, that is a clever play on words, did you come up with that?

I refuse to give that guy the time of day until he puts on a pair of shoes. No matter how skilled you are, ignoring an obvious advantage makes you weaker and a liability.

I need a recommendation for an EDC vehicle first aid bag. This weekend I was witness to an accident that ultimately took a mans life. Granted no medic bag would have been able to save him but It highlighted that my small cuts and bumps kit is not sufficient. Would prefer a molle style as I have the back wall panel coming for my truck. but any will work.

First aid kit for the truck, Mountain bike in the garage in case the whole city decides to evacuate at the same time as you.

Ive been through two hurricanes - one that didn't amount to squat and one where we were without power for three weeks. First rule of a hurricane is that you usually have to make the evacuation decision two days before your work says its ok. If the city announces the evacuate order, its too late, the roads will be too clogged to get out. The first one we attempted evacuating and wound up sitting on the freeway for 16 hours, we said "fuck this" and were home about an hour later. The 2nd one we sheltered in place. There was no damage to the house, but there was no power either.

It was the aftermath that was a bitch. Most gas stations were down for a week, the week after that the lines stretched around the block until they shut down again (out of fuel). Grocery stores were in the same predicament, most got electricity back within the week, but they couldn't resupply what was spoiled. Both cars had 3/4 tank, we ran one car until it was down to 1/4 then switched to the other. Two weeks in, the gas stations were reasonable enough to refuel again.
Neighbors came together like they never had before. One guy had a welding generator and ran five extension cords to the nearby houses. The two houses that he couldnt reach cooked their food first and shared with the block. Everyone shared everything. No TV and no A/C meant that most nights we were sitting in the street socializing, passing the tray of cookies that someone's restaurant couldn't serve, someone else was friends with the owner of a convenience store and scored a case of beer, I scored a pallet of dry ice from my work which came in handy. Most nights we sat around and shot the shit until the sun went down, when the temperatures dropped from steamy-death-sauna to merely ass-sweat-hot, then someone would start a game of soccer against the neighbor's kids. It was really a surreal, magical time when I think about it now. I'm grateful for the experience, but sure as hell wouldnt want to do it again.
