It's a lot of money for a long time, there were reports someone's not happy there, he's almost 30 and a lot can happen in 8 years. Along with his injuries this past season he's a big question mark in my book. If he continues elite play I'm happy, but it seems these contacts tend to put teams in difficult situations.

True. Any long contract certainly comes with some risks and concerns. I also am not sure if he's ever been truly 100% since the achilles thing or whatever from the Conference Finals in Ott. That being said, if you get 5-6 solid years out of him, I think it is totally worth it. That dude is so good. I know I am biased, since I think he's the best player at that position. But I would think keeping him around, long side Burns, really makes that team dangerous.

It’s been only few days, but I can still hear the overwhelming cheers and applause from our fans. I knew we had the best fans ,but I didn’t realized how special and remarkable you are till I stood in front of you before Game 5.It was an unbelievable experience to have your support.
I couldn’t help to fight back tears, but so happy to respond to adversity and be there with my teammates.
It was unbelievable feeling of pride and honor to be a Bostonian. We as Bruins fell short of our team goal, but we’re so grateful that we made you proud. This group of players and coaches are very special.I can’t say enough about how many times our team responded the right way to adversity and embrace the challenges. We believe in hard work.We treat each other equally and with respect. We trust each other and depend on each other, but mostly we love to play for this community.
On behalf of all of the players and from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of our fans for your support and loyalty this year. We never could have made it this far without you. We will be back...

Did they ever confirm that he had a broken jaw? What a beast. Still playing out there mangled.

Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara said he broke his jaw in multiple places and played the last three games of the Stanley Cup Final with "two plates, some wires and screws" holding it together.

Props the Big Z for toughing it out. I def respect that guy. Always tough to lose a game 7 in the Final. But at least he has lifted the Cup, so if he never makes it back, he has at least won it before.

I’m somewhat shocked he’s going to go another year in some ways. Putting rivalries aside, most of the good opportunities the Leafs had against the Bruins at even strength came from when Chara’s reach could no longer compensate for his age. He’s impossible to replace in terms of size and toughness but as he ages I’m not sure what he brings to the table compensates for what he costs defensively. I guess we will see next year.

The sharks now have three D locked up long term for 26.5 million per year all with some sort of no trade clause, two of which are over 30 and Karlsson who is 29. High risk strategy but if they can get that threesome to carry them to a cup, worth it. Going to be tight against the cap though now. I wonder what this does to the Pavelski contract talks.

He’s not a young guy either. The over 35 club is going to be thick on that team in a couple of years lol.
