None yet, but I'm hoping I can get some advice. It will be my daily driver, but also want it to be a capable over lander. Need help on which steps to do first, and how to do it in order that makes the most sense.
Hey everyone, maybe this has already been asked, but I didn't see it.
Q: I'm old school and have usually changed the oil on a new motor by the first 1,000 miles.
I've got a new 19 tacoma ORLB. The dealer said I don't need to change the oil that they do it at the 10K mark. They said they don't change it at the 5K maintenance appointment because the motor has synthetic.
I don't trust it. I want to change the oil between 500-1,000 miles as it breaks in. I keep my rigs a long time and want this motor to be maintained very well.
Is this real? I mean no worries, just change it at 10,000mi. I just don't trust it, but I've been wrong before (just ask my wife) Lol.
I'm new to TW, so I appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks

    welcome

They're correct but for ease of mind you can do it yourself earlier.

I did my own at 5k

10,000 is the suggested interval with 0w-20 synthetic unless you are towing, excessive idling, using it like a taxi. Then they recommend every 5k. Do whatever leaves you comfortable.

Welcome to TW! I had my dealer change it at my first service. I of course had to pay for it but I believe the first one should be around 3000 miles. I will go with 5000 miles on the next service.

I changed mine out at 5k for peace of mind. Dealership just changed it at the 10k mark. Ill wait until 20k this time for the next oil change.

Waste of money imo. Heck I run 12,500 miles or more between changes with cheap synthetic oil. 177k trouble free miles

I got the 25K or two year maintenance package for "free" as it comes with every new toyota.
Thats cool, but changing the oil once every 10K miles seems foreign to me. They said Toyota "breaks" them in prior to shipping.
I don't know about that either. I just know anything mechanical and under high temp and stress need maintenance.
I wasn't sure if I did my own oil change if that would void the maintenance package.
I'm more than likely going to change the oil at 1,000 miles (about).
Looks like Mobil one is a good synthetic.
    Any ideas would be welcome.

Just change the filter. Buy a case of filters and start using them

My sticker says I’m due for an oil change on 7/13/19. I’ll have around 2k miles then. Change it or no?

Glad we have a thread on oil changes.
#2 is the consensus of about half the people who care. The other half don’t care what the manufacturer or others think. The next half don’t care and the final half don’t know what oil is.

I changed at 1k to clean out any mfg metal particles, then again at 2500 miles for break-in. Now every 3500 miles which is about 12 months for me.

Am I wasting money and natural resources? Probably so, but when I read of about those super old high mileage Toyota trucks, one common thread is very frequent oil changes.

So I just live in a excessive oil change pretend world.
    And I like it.

I speak with the easy assurance of the unconsciously ignorant.

This has been gone over before. The general consensus seems to be that if you change your oil with synthetic every 10,000 miles with just about any brand of oil you'll be just fine. That being said I changed mine after the first 5,000 then again at 10,000 miles and then again at 17,000 miles. From here on out I'll probably just do it every 10,000. If it gives you peace of mind to change it more often and you have the expendable cash go for it. probably not necessary though.

I paid the dealer to change mine @ 5K. ($63.00) Dealer will change on Toyota's dime (so to speak) @ 10K next week, then I will pay @ 15K etc. I am planning on changing every 5k. This is my retirement truck a 2019 DCOR premium pkg.
