    Hola gents and gals,

I didnt see any thread in the first couple pages so I'd like to revisit a more than likely common question.

Those who had a 3rd gen TRD OR or Sport who then made the choice to go for Pro.

Was it worth it and why or why not.

I ask this because my local dealership I acquired my OR from has made the offer to put me in a 2019 Pro for approximately $20 more a month than what I'm paying for the OR. I see this as not only a marketing ploy and money scheme from Toyota but also a means to get some upgrades that would realistically cost me the amount or more of the difference from extending the loan another 18 months (pretty much it's a new purchase through refinance).

If you have no intention of lifting the truck it is 100% worth it. I went from 2017 OR 4x4 to 2019 Pro and have no regrets. The Fox suspension is way nicer than the OR Bilsteins, the skid plate is nice and very functional, the exhaust sounds good, etc. If you intend to lift at all it isn't worth it though.

    $20 more a month? 18 months more? How much are these extended payments? $500.00 that’s $9,000. $1,000 that’s $18,000.

I rather avoid doing a lift and just get a bigger tire to provide the look of it being lifted. That Fox suspension is what really has my eye and I know there are a lot of advantages to the rest of the rig as well. I looked into upgrading my OR to virtually the same as a Pro with suspension, plate, TRD engine components and I find the overall cost of either option to be very similar. Toyota just sent me this offer today and I have a few weeks to decide. Definitely going to go tortoise with this.

    Thank you for your reply!

I am actually doing just about the same thing on my Pro. Looking at a set of pizza cutter 33" tires as we speak.

The finances are legitimate. I would not be losing out minus the extension. If I were to upgrade my OR to what a Pro has the math suggests I'd be paying around the same amount in difference over the entire length of the loan. Maybe give or take a few hundred dollars because of the new taxes and whatnot.

Edit; I also gave a rough estimate of the labor to upgrading the OR. I do not have a shop or tools to do the work myself (I am also noob) so it's a total win if you consider that.

I wanted a sunroof, premium, tech, leather, and I preferred the pro wheels and lift. Definitely could have gotten a OR cheaper, but I basically got a truck premade exactly how I wanted it. Worth the price to not think about mods.

It’s up to you really. You’re money. As much as you think you are winning, Toyota is the real winner on these deals. If it makes you happy then go for it.

Sounds like you don’t really need the Fox suspension. Maybe just upgrade to 5100s and call it a day.

Sales manager who happens to be a close friend told me Toyota overestimated Pro production this year and they were told region wise to cease the markup pricing, they are wheeling and dealing Pros now too at MSRP or slightly less. Feel bad for all the people that paid over MSRP and told you so to those that swore they were limited in production like the 15s were and tried to justify it.

OP they are making money, from your trade to the financing to the holdback or new truck. But if you can swing it and want it, go for it!

Agreed. No company will willingly loose money. But I guess as long as your both happy, everyone wins?

What's the big deal? going from a 72 month note to a 360 month note for $20 more a month seems legit. It's a Toyota afterall!

Man, thank god I live in flyover country. The idea of paying over MSRP for a vehicle is bonkers to me. Granted, the dealers here get a pro like once a quarter, but still....

My dealer has 5 sitting on the lot right now. Coupled with slowing car sales, buyers market right now.

Hah, nice. Every dealer I spoke two within a two hour radius said they basically get 1/3 colors on rotation. They get sent the next one in 1/3 colors when they sell the one they currently have. I don't doubt you could say "I want a black one, make it happen", but a semi-local dealer got what I wanted a few days before I was ready to pull the trigger, so didn't think too hard about it.

I will say, one disadvantage of getting one right off the truck is that they apparently like to slather an entire can of black magic foam on the tires right before you show up.... 50 miles down the highway later, and I had to wash the damn thing to get all the oily gunk they flung all over the thing

Lol. Feel ya. As a weekend detailing warrior I always bring it right home and that day or next, wash, decontaminate, clay, wash and seal, including removing the tire shine they paint on.

I'm no "Obsessed Garage" kinda guy, and I'm not against tire shine. I did however learn to stay away from canned anything long ago. It takes what? 2 minutes to use legit tire shine with a foam applicator, which doesn't result in goop everywhere? Come on.... I did get one of those Chemical Guys giant wash mitts recently. It's a good way to get a workout in since it holds about 40 pounds of liquid

The first new car I bought, I went all out with the Klasse polish and such. A few door dings later, and I just decided i'd use good products and keep it clean. I definitely appreciate folks that go the extra mile, but damn it's so much work. I know it's not my calling, since I have plenty of hobbies that plenty of folks would consider work, but I consider fun haha.
