These posts just made 3rd gen owners blow a head gasket because you all aren't using the recommended oil weight as per the user manual 0-20.

They're like the red headed stepchild of this forum.

Of course because the 3rd gen has become incredibly commercialized and mainstream, now they get all the fancy new bling toys that we don't. We have blowers though, they don't, so ultimately we win this war. :D

Do you have a link for a suggested engine oil cooler.

I'd say leave the stock 3.0" on at first. Then you get to experience the increases. That is where a lot of the fun is. Otherwise you get used to things and it becomes less novel. Plus I think it helps a bit to have the S/C mounted for leverage when removing old pulley. But yes, get the quick change when time comes.

I fear they will some day have a nice turbo kit offered and we will be sad... At the least a blower being offered at some point.

Truth, a turbo kit would drastically reduce my feeling of superiority over the 3rd gen owners

I'm not saying it will solve any head gasket issue. To be clear. It will withstand your extreme climate much better though. Get a good 5w or 0w-40. That is much better suited to your current environment and load levels.

Doesn't matter what the conversations are. They are just ever in envy of all of our performance availabilities.

I hate to say it, but turbos suck. At least in the OE offerings, just about every turbo car I've ever seen be it Evolution, Eclipse, Acura RDX, 3000GT, or even BMW 3 series has suffered some sort of issue due to the turbo itself which results in expensive repair bills. My grandmother, and my sister both have owned brand new turbo BMW cars, and within less than 20K, both have had turbo impeller issues.

True, there is a lot of potential for high boost numbers and fatty aftermarket turbo upgrades, but in the grand scheme of things if you want fast out of a supercharger just change the pulley size and away you go (for the most part). Less than $100 in comparison to $600 and up for a larger turbo.

What's worst, every vehicle coming out now from Honda Accord, to Nissan Juke have turbos now. You are basically screwed when it comes to sacrificing reliability simply because they want you to shitcan the car (due to the outrageous prices in parts) quicker and buy another one. Planned obsolescence.

They claim they are running turbos for fuel economy, and CAFE, and the capability of running smaller powerplants for reduced carbon footprints, and that may be true, but what you save in fuel you wind up paying for in repair bills by the time you have to fix them.

Clearly you can see what my opinion is when running FI in a vehicle, perhaps I am biased. I just feel like Superchargers are superior if you want to talk about reliability and simplicity of build in comparison to.

Turbo cars are fun though, I will give them that..

Just my opinion honestly after all my years of diagnosing and wrenching. No offense at all Tor. :)

3rd gens will still suck even if they offer them with a turbo kit. It would be like dressing a pig in velvet.. or polishing a turd. Or in this case, a trd.

Well you guys have the factory tow package aux cooler where my car just runs trans fluid through the lower radiator so it’s not too crazy to see that drop. Also running it in series.

I’m just using the factory sensor and out to my OBD monitor. Might not be totally accurate but the needle definitely sits lower.

I’m just using the greddy sandwich with a small derale stacked plate cooler.

Take a ride in an aluminum body F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost in it. Of course it’s all opinion but it’s hard not to love the power in that truck and, again in my experience, the engine is pretty sound mechanically.

I just want my Tacoma not to feel anemic after driving a F150 all day for work lol. The blower achieved that and I do appreciate its simplicity, but I’ve often wondered what an Ecoboost Tacoma would feel like.

I have. We have so far replaced the engine in at least 2 different ecoboost F-150 trucks from what my memory recalls. Lol. Their turbos have been relatively sound on those trucks, however.

All opinion like you said, but I have had and have seen many blower equipped cars running anywhere from 5-10 psi which have been happily scooting along mostly problem free since the vehicle was new. It was just basic maintenance really.

Eco boost is great. It's the whole ford name I'm psyched out with.
