If an off road taco equipped with 35 tires , lift kit , spacers , larger dia. rims , wench bumper , etc. were available from Toyota with full warranty how many could they actually sell? If so many want to change to a more radical truck , why not just sell it to begin with to the public? If buyers want a rock crawler then at least offer it as an option.
If buyers want an extreme camper version , give it to them. If they want a 4:88 or even lower diff. , give it to them.

What percent would you guess would buy something like this?

What is that? Have you seen the dealer markups for modified Tacomas? Wouldn’t you prefer to mod it your way and save a bundle doing it?

The only reason why one would do it is if they wanted their princess mall cruiser to keep it’s Toyota factory warranty on all its overpriced parts.

I think they would sell some. A limited edition would be cool.

I think a lot of people want to do their own personalized mods and for less $ than factory mods.

I like what Toyota did with the new Supra with all the non functioning scoops that after market tuners can then open up/utilize as they see fit. Working with the after market will sell more vehicles than trying to replace the after market.

    All the things!
Let me list the reasons that will never happen...

    • No real market for it
    • crash safety standards
    • CAFE and EPA standards
    no other reasons needed

There is obviously a market for factory upgraded vehicles, the Raptor, Rubicon, Hellcat, ZR2 show that, but would many Tacoma buyers be willing to pay the premium?

The Colorado ZR2 with a $10k+ premium was 12% of the Jan 18 Colorado sales. That's likely enough to justify the added expense of new tooling but the TRD Extreme wouldn't have 35's or spacers, just similar upgrades to the ZR2, so basically a slightly cooler Off-road and they could call it something cool like the Pro.

Oh wait, they already do that.

The problem with that is that a serious off-roader, the ones who would consider a vehicle like that, would prefer to modify their truck in specific ways that they prefer. That truck would probably go for 80K. For that price I'd just buy a mega raptor. 46 in tires on a cool looking f250. The guy that makes em said he still gets 16-17mpg on the highway...better than I do...

Tiny market compared to the Tacoma market as a whole. In addition there would be warranty claims out the ass. If all that is not bad enough the thing would cost $75K because of CAFE penalties they would have to recoup.

    Naw.
