I hit a dog tonight in my tacoma

I was driving home from work tonight. as i turned a corner and got back on a straight away a dog ran out in front of me. i slammed on the brakes but it was too late.
The dog had run away from home and the owner was out looking for it. She happened to be right off the side of the road on her bike when i hit her dog. Long story short, I get her, her bike and her dying dog in the back of my truck so I can try to get them to a vet. The vets office was a good 30 min drive away, and i wasnt really sure where it was at. luckily on the way there i got pulled over by the cops, told them the situation and got an escort to the vet.
By the time we got there it was too late. I feel really bad. The girl was hysterical, and i can't blame her. I waited around at the vets until her boyfriend showed up. Lets just say that was a long ride home back to my house at the end of the night.

I almost drove off. I am glad i didn't, I don't know how i could look at myself if i did that. And plus if my wife ever found out that i drove off, she would kill me.
On a lighter note though my truck is ok. There was a lot of blood in the bed, but that all cleaned out.

Damn dude, I would say it wasn't your fault, but you are the only one who can truely answer that question. Hope you feel better, and glad your truck is ok....

 

Whoa sad story but you did the right thing by stopping and helping out as much as you could.

 

If you weren't yapping on the phone and were paying attention and not driving like a an ass, you can at least take solace in the 'accidents happen' view.

Somethings, you can do everything right and shit still happens, which is why they call them 'accidents'.

Good job trying to save the day after the fact. Lot of guys would have taken the cowards way out.

 

You did good on trying to save the dog and so did the cop. I hit a deer a couple months ago and I still remember vividly the last few seconds before I hit her. It still makes me feel sick to my stomach because I love animals. Don't be hard on yourself man, accidents happen. Maybe you can try becoming friends with the dogs owner.

not to be a prick but really, it was her fault for not keeping her dog under her supervision/inside the house/on a leash.

your a good man for stopping and an even better man for trying to get them to the vets to try and save the dog.
