I'm going back and forth between 265/70/17 and 285/70/17.
Not sure why they don't offer a 275/70/17

 

I'm on 285/70/17 C load. ~2.25" lift, soft topper, front bumper, rock sliders and I'm getting 17-18mpgs. I had about a 1mpg drop. Definitely less power stomping on the gas though. I'll regear for sure when I go to 35s.

 

About 13k on these and they're still great.

Anyone who developed tire noise after 10k+ miles?

 

16-17 mpgs (coming from 19-21)

6.5" Spindle Lift
33" RGs
17" Moto Metals

I would say it's a substantial loss in mpgs, but us tacoma's still get better mpgs than a tundra

 

Your MPG loss probably came more from your 6.5" lift than your tires. I'm averaging 18-19 mpgs right now with front/rear bumper/sliders and 285s.

I would think it came from both relatively equally.

The 6.5" lift does increase drag. However I noticed that without re-gearing, the larger tires have certainly effected my MPGs. Local highway speed limits range from 65-75mph and when I'm driving any time higher than 60mph, my RPMs are sitting at least above 2000. Before the lift & tires, I could hit 75mph at 1500 RPMs but now I already hit 2000 RPMs at only 60mph. It struggles at higher speeds. I have better city mileage than I do highway; much better driving at a constant 40mph than at a constant 65mph.

I really think that's the wind resistance being much higher at speed than in the city. I'm on stock auto gears and my rpms are much lower than yours at the same speed since I am using less power to cut through the wind. I can double check today what my RPMs are at 60, but generally on premium I'm averaging 17 city and 19 freeway. I do drive like a granny for the most part though.

I will say I did notice a loss in power going from 255s to 285s even though they were the same height. Appreciate your comments about the build!

 

Update: I'm floating at about 1800rpm at 60.

 

With a mixture of in town and freeway driving I average 19.5 MPG , on the interstate between Boise and Hermiston Oregon it drops to about 17 MPG.
