It's indicative of the reliability of their engines, lol.
I know 3 people that have Subarus that are '17MY or newer that have already needed major engine work. One of them had to be completely replaced.

Does anyone here know someone or a shop that can do a CMC or weld on some cab mount relocation bracket for me? It's the only thing I need to fit bigger wheels. I live in CT but willing to travel to MA, RI, or even NY.

Ok, totally makes sense. Now I know why they drive so aggressively. It's stressful driving around in a vehicle that might fail at any time.

One of the guys I know with a Subie is currently going back and forth with Subaru corporate about buying the car back. He's had it for about a year and it's only got like 5k on it; he's put probably twice as many miles on various loaners than on the car he's making payments on because it's spent so much time in the shop

By that logic though, Jeep drivers should be the most aggressive drivers out there, no?

Your post was right on time. I had an encounter with a Subie hatch back owner this morning driving like a complete asshat also. Must be something in the Subie cabin air filters or something...

Hi, thanks to everyone that has reached out!

I am sure this is a broken record for the seasoned folks so I apologize.

Shift into 4WD, nasty grind, worst I think when turning. CDL light is solid, not flashing. This is classic front actuator? Previous owner said it just started happening one day when engaged during a winter snowy drive. He stopped using the 4WD after that. It's been probably a couple years of 2WD operations.

I bought this truck knowing the issue, rest of the truck is fine for the most part (other issues that aren't important), I mostly need it as a weekend dump truck so 4x4 isn't even important to me. But hey, it's there, and I would love for it to work.

Yeah, he spent the first six months being pretty pissed about it. Now he's just resigned to the fact that it's a junker, lol.

Yeah, I am prepared for a worst case scenario like that. That's why I would love to get a professional opinion.

With an ADD truck, can I just pull the front drive shaft and still do a CDL lock so I can at least use the rear diff lock?

Concur. My add actuator is sticky/ sometimes takes a while to engage. It doesn't make any noises. Grinding sounds like an issue with gears, possibly axles/ maybe the add sleeve that connects axles to diff output shaft

Not on the new toyotas. You need manual hubs iirc to do that.

Maybe look for a used front diff and CV axles from a salvage yard, or contact ecgs to buy a remanned unit. Like the others said, sounds like the actuator is engaging, but something in the diff has gone bad.
