I’ve been studying the forums and have talked with my dealer who’s service manager is a great friend of mine. I have done nothing but added 285/75/16’s to my truck. I added the inline speedometer calibrator.
I called a local 4wheel drive shop and they said to put 5.29’s in. But my buddy at Toyota is saying put 4.88’s in.

I want to be able to go off-roading but still be able to drive 85 here in Texas. Without my truck searching for gears. I did have the SN complied with. Any thoughts or actuall first hand knowledge?

Service bulletin complied with. I’m going to add bumpers and a cap soon. So I want to gear right for my upcoming add-ons.

Auto Trans - 4.88's for stock tire. 5.29 for 33's or 35's. Add OVTune for ultimate drivability.

Awesome, I don’t want the ovtune thanks for the input. I’m confused now because other friends are now saying 4.56. But I want to do better than stock

Watch TacomaBeast's youtube video on 4.88 vs 5.29's from Just Differentials, he tells you exactly what to get with what you want out of your Tacoma.

If you want to add bumpers and a shell then get the 5.29's. If you get the 4.88's and then add weight, you're going to regret not getting the 5.29's. Just go for it.

People who put in 5.29s have no complaints. People who put in 4.88s wish they put in 5.29s

I’m trying to find from people that have 4.88’s and 5.29’s. What did they loose on top end? RPMs at 70-85.

Nothing lost on top end with 4.88's. 75 mph is 2500 rpm. 250 rpm delta per every 5 mph. I am totally happy with 4.88's so not EVERYONE who has 4.88's wants 5.29's. Just the facts - no bs.
