I actually, just this morning, ordered the bilstein recommended replacement springs for my 6112's and moved up to a 650 spring. I have a bumper, full trio of skid plates, and will eventually be putting on sliders and a winch. You are right though, bilstein doesn't recommend a 700 eibach spring even though some 4x4 shops say it is ok. I want to not void the warranty. I can get back to you afterwards to see how my experience upgrading to the 650 lb springs helped. The bilstein spring number for 650lb springs made for the 6112's is 53-291387.

Bilstein vs toytec ia price advantage. I won’t get into the toytec cons you can find that on the forums.

OME and Dobinson do not use a 60mm piston and 2.65” body.

Cons of the 6112 is that they’re always out of stock.

I called Bilstein today to ask if the 5160 shocks are different left vs. right. They informed me the shocks are exactly the same and the only difference is the left side shock comes with the brake line spacer. What does this mean? Currently, there are tons of right side 5160 shocks on the market and no left sides. Order 2 rights side shocks if you do not need the spacer. FWIW

So this just means that you order 2 right side ones and instead of the break block you can add extended brake lines and you should be all set then. I ordered mine together and put in the spacer block for the break lines but then added extended brake lines anyway to be safe. The brake line spacer just adds more room for the OEM line to flex due to the lift of the rear of the truck.

I will take a picture of "the block" that is installed underneath my truck to show you that the extended brake lines will do the same thing. Give me a quick moment....here it is....

OME dakar medium pack. I have a 1/2 spacer block on the driverside rear because I had serious taco lean. It is perfect now.

So I've been reading up on axle shims. I now understand their purpose and the problem they solve. Is it possible to predict what shim I'll need, and install it at the same time as the new leaf packs? It would be nice to avoid having to measure things after doing an install, only to have to go back in and install shims. Also, should I measure the angles before doing anything so that I have a point of comparison? All the write-ups I've read seem to suggest only measuring after the install, then using those to correct the numbers.

Measuring first is always the best way to go but most people go off of the standard of degree vs inches of lift. 3 inch lift = 3°, 2 inch lift =2° and so on.....the long beds not so much but the short beds have more of an extreme angle. I didnt need shims with my dclb.

Ok so that's a good starting point at least. I'd install everything, measure, and fix if I got vibes. How much lift in the rear should I expect with 5160s, OME medium Dakar? For weight I've got a Diamondback cover, bed mat, and bed rack and RTT sometimes, plus whatever weight from my sliders is distributed to the rear.

Edit: I see the shims that HS offers start at 2*, and since my setup is setup to provide 2" of lift without any weight, I think I'll order the 2* shims.

The 5160's won't give you any lift, the dakars will. The medium dakars will give you 2.75 inchs without any weight. The heavy dakars will give you that height with 650lbs in the bed consistent weight. If you take out the weight with the heavy dakars, it might go up about 3/4". My recommendation is to get the medium dakars with your set up and then add an AAL if you need more afterwards. I have a Leer shell on the back and I still have about 2.5 inches in the rear with medium dakars. You also do not want to use the 5160's with anything more than 2.75 inches of lift because it would be too much lift and you might hit the top end of the shock.

Yes ok that is exactly what I did. Everything from wheeler's is supposed to come in on Thursday minus the one side for the 5160.

Jared. Did you install the topper after the lift? How did your truck look front-to-back after full lift install? Level, high rear end, or high front end? I'd like mine to either be level or maintain the current factory rake.
