I wouldn’t think so I don’t have them on mine either and it’s only a couple hundred pounds lighter than yours. We have had it in the mtns and some rough logging roads and no problems so far

If your trailer weight gets over 2000# it would probably be wise to get brakes on it.

So how does the Taco handle with the Lance, I am thinking of getting the same 1475 with the slide.

It handles the Lance great. The shop guy at dealer told me to give it a try without the WDH and after about 10,000 miles now it has done very well. The Lance so far for us has been awesome. I have 2 AGM batteries on it and with the 165W solar on roof it is always charged. Been from Long Island to RI, FLA, LA, GA and TX. In every type weather summer to snow and heavy rain in the mountains. Tows really well. I had the extended mirrors but didn't like the ones I have so I tow without them and no problems. There is a guy on the lance owners forum towing a Lance 1995 with a 2nd gen and 250,000 miles on his truck. I try not to exceed 65MPH. Make sure to get the 4 season package it comes with the 2 5/8" lift. Spent about 60 nights in it since December so let me know if you have any questions and check out Lance owners group. The TW of Lance.

Usually only tow it a mile, probably near 3000 pound with trailer. Rutgers likes it sometimes.

My old flatbed is showing its age; I have an axle stub going bad, the deck is rotting out, and tires need replacing. It doesn't have brakes, either, which makes me a bit nervous when hauling my small tractor, The trailer is a home built from 1982, and I've had it almost 26 years. All the repairs, tires, and adding brakes puts me well over half what a new trailer would cost.

So, I went and bought a new one. Old one is 14' long, new one is 18' long Deck on the old one is just under 6 feet, deck on the new one is 6'10", and it's a dovetail. Decking is treated 2x6; Ramps store underneath in back, rather than fold up. It has two #3500 axles with brakes on one axle. This one is also listed as a home built, although the guy builds about 15 trailers a week, from 6x10 high-side landscape trailers to 22 foot deck over wheels types; he'll build or customize whatever you want. Best of all are his prices. I gave $400 less for this trailer than for an almost identical Leonard brand. DSC00624.jpg DSC00625.jpg DSC00626.jpg DSC00628.jpg DSC00627.jpg

The trailer dry weight is 2,100 lbs and on a recent 4 person 2,100 mile Yosemite National Park trip, with all gear plus bikes, we were heavy enough to make LA freeway traffic very stressful without a brake controller. No weight distribution hitch needed.

Are you planning to remedy that? Assuming the trailer does have brakes, you just haven't got the controller, yet.

Cool trailer. We've been looking at some. Problem is convincing the wife to do something like yours instead of a rolling mobile home.

haha... its certainly small. But the whole point is to be outside when not working/shitting/sleeping.

Trailer weighs 3150# loaded, tongue weight around 350#. My max trailer weight is 3700# so I have some leeway. The truck tows very well using S4 with 1.05 87 gearlock. I keep it 55-60 mph and rpm runs around 2500 - 2700 in 4th gear. Trans pan temp levels out at 185* which is within the normal range.

Mostly prairie where I live so have not had any hills to climb only inclines and overpasses. I believe there would not be any problem with the current setup.

In general should you tow in 4x4 or 2x4 mode? What if the load is near capacity?

4x2, unless you're off-pavement someplace where you need the extra traction.

Always tow in 2wd when on pavement. Only time you'd put it in 4wd towing is the same as when not towing.... when additional traction is needed to climb a hill, make it through mud/snow, etc. You'll mess up the truck towing on pavement in 4wd
