About that Clutch Start Cancel button

I'm pretty curious, would it be okay to use this on a daily basis to start the truck? I don't I ever would because I'm so used to pushing in the clutch but I wouldn't mind knowing.

I stalled once in 4Lo with folks around getting over an obstacle (no sliders). It was hilarious. I didn't think to try CSC.

 

Daily basis in neutral? Sure.

In gear? You're eventually going to wear the starter or flywheel unless your going downhill. But in that case, you could just bump start the engine with the clutch. I do that when backing down my driveway.

 

I used it twice. Once to start on an incline while off-roading to prevent rolling back and the other when my clutch position switch broke and I couldn't start it without the clutch switch override.

 

I mentioned this in the other thread, but I believe this is why we still have a key instead of push button start.

 

I don't think it would. As long as you're not on it for minutes to overheat things. I try to avoid using it for longer than 30 seconds without giving it a break.


I have also used it to creep off the interstate 50yds or so when my fuel pump became disconnected.

 

I can see both sides of this. I am just thinking about the dry mesh between the starter and flywheel. If it was lubricated / sealed, then I would have your view of it.

 

I've been doing stuff like @Reh5108 posted for years now, and use it nearly ever time I start from a stop when in 4L.

I'm on my factory starter and flywheel both with 288k miles on them.

It's not going to hurt your truck.

 

@Reh5108 since you have experience with this in its intended purpose..my question is to make it up something like that after it started and got moving did you have to give it gas at all or did it make up that at idle?

Here's a little clutch start crawling action near the start of this video. Sometimes I purposely turn the engine off and start in gear as it helps prevent rolling backwards when on an obstacle.

Makes sense with the increased load on it, though it's minimal especially in 1st low.

Simple answer is no it won't idle up. It needs some gas but even then it's to much load for the engine to pull through the low rpms.

No. Once you let off the ignition the starter disengages like normal. The light stays on until you shut the ignition off. This is nice when you're in difficult terrain and so that you don't need to keep enabling the button.

What would make more sense—if Toyota would put the switch back-light on the Fog Light button—makes no sense to have a back-light on the CSC.

 

I use it when I need to jump my mower or john deere, which has been pretty darn "clutch"

 

I use it all the time, not having to depress the clutch will reduce wear on the thrust bearing during start up where oil pressure is at its lowest. I'm not saying that your thrust bearing will wear out if you don't do this or that this will magically make anything last longer but I'll take any opportunity to reduce wear during start up where the most wear happens. There are millions of cars that don't have thrust bearing wear using the traditional clutch in starting so it's a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist but again, I'll take any opportunity to reduce wear during start up.
