Fitting 35's on 3" suspension lift

This, 100 times this. Power is fun but crossing the country at a sustained 3700 rpm’s isn’t.

 

Am I gonna hate myself for going with 5.29s on days when I decide to drive the truck to work? I have a 55 miles stretch of highway at 50-80mph each way.

I imagine being able to hold 65 up Mountain passes will be achievable though I don't plan on making many long trips in this truck.

 

No, I am only at a sustained 3700 rpm at 75-80 and am around 4K at 85-90. You and your motor will be fine at 55.

Edit misread, it’s going to be loud motor load wise at 55 miles trip but you get used to it.

 

yup. My engine is loud and I'm on 4.88s

 

with 31s I was pushing 3200(ish?) RPMs around 80 so that's not terrible, I've looked at the calculators and seen the RPMs but wondered how it feels at that higher RPMs

 

Every time I get on the highway my dog gives me a WTF is happening look.

FWIW, I love my gears. I rarely take it over 75, so it’s only like 3500-3750ish.

As many times as I tell myself it probably wont be worth the trouble for a little bit of ground clearance, I just can't keep from wanting to move up. My truck is pretty much capped out offroad performance wise short of gaining a little belly height with 35s, and eventually an axle swap. Current setup is double locked, crawler, 33s. I'm due for tires soooooon so I'm debating with myself again.

I like to play in the rocks trying to keep up with the solid axle rigs on 37's. For those of you who like to beat on your rig in the nasty stuff like I do, is it worth the trouble? All things considered, of course.

 

I really think that for reliability of our front end components and an IFS setup, 33's are about the limit. Yes, 35's will stuff in there with a bit of tubbing and trimming... But in reality you're only gaining 1/2" over a good set of 33's, but since most 35's are wide you're adding a bunch of un-sprung weight. If you wanna keep up with jeeps on 37's... Get a dedicated jeep on 37's, SAS your rig, or choose a different trail your current setup can handle

I had to winch out $100k AEV Jeep twice on my last outing... I think smart off roading skills trump "superior" equipment any day. I bet a stock height TRD with a rear locker will get you pretty damn far if you know how to use it.

I think you're missing my intent a little. My truck is my truck. I'm not getting a jeep. I'll eventually axle swap this thing. I currently run the trails I want to run with the big trucks. I just winch more.

I understand that big tires are hard on front end components. Everything I do is hard on my truck. It's a trail rig. I want to know from those who have them and wheel very hard if the cost/benefit ratio works out in favor of them.

 

If your going to sas at some point I’d just wait. Unless your pretty good at fabricating stuff then go for it. Which if your going to sas you probably are. 35s will stress everything more but I have yet to have any issues and I’ve done the rubicon twice and will be again in 2 weeks. Just know tubbing sucks it really does like everyone who’s done it has stated.

 

Very worth it like mike said. I ran a trail on 33s. Blew a cv. Busted the side of my truck, needed a spotter most of the trail. Threw on 35, locked f&r and now i can run that trail solo and make it my bitch
