You gonna help me? You owe me for all those Iphones I gave you :quickdraw:. I'm also worried about the evaporator. AC has been making a hissing noise for about a year and found some threads where that was the prime suspect. I think you have to tear the WHOLE dash out to replace the evaporator. I need to find somebody with a sniffer to test it before I open that can of worms.

Don't know about that evaporator, but I got you in rest of the stuff, like you said, I owe you, and a Lanister knows how to repay his debts

drier is built in and part of the condenser in front of the radiator, one piece, yeah, it can be repacked, but the cost and time involved, assuming it opens up lie it should are pretty much a wash, and you still have to flush the condenser.....

evaporator, it will have the expansion valve attached to it, so likely what you’re hearing hissing, it’s restricted probably from debris from compressor.

the Compressor is the most expensive part of the whole deal, the “other parts” cost less combined.

The killer in the whole deal is the labor.

Yeh thats the scary part. Might end up having to bite the bullet and pay somebody to do this job. I got a feeling it would run past a weekend for me. If Ive got the dash all torn apart still I wouldn't be able to drive it to work Monday.

Would replacing the expansion valve be possible or you have to do the whole evaporator? Theres a time lapse on youtube of a Toyota tech replacing the evaporator and it took him 6 hrs to disassemble and reassemble the dash and replace it and he knew what he was doing. Im guessing double that if I tried it. Plus all the other work for the compressor and condensor.

Anybody have any suggestions for a good shop that is good for A/C work?

Not sure Ive got the Cahones to tackle this.

i’d expect to be without the vehicle for a few days, just to allow it all to happen. jobs like this are not always something a shop will do all at once if they have other work in as well.

Dealer is gonna be the most expensive, but probably the quickest turn around.

Indy shop will vary in price and quality.

Depending on your need, doing the evap over a weekend tearing dash apart and reassembling THAT part to allow you to drive it over the next week might be the best option cost wise.

the condenser and compressor aren’t that tough to get at, i’d inspect hoses where crimps are for oily residue as well, prior to tearing anything down. biggest thing is using the correct seals and lubing everything as it goes together.

Luckily Ive got access to a spare vehicle just got done doing a Jeep build. The owner of our company has an 01 TJ it had a 2 inch lift with 31’s on it. He’s lazy and clueless about cars/trucks so put me in charge of the build. He told me he wanted to make it bigger and said don't spend more than 10 grand. Requirements were that it drove well around town and looked cool. The Jeep will never go offroad EVER. He’s put like 500 miles on it in the last 2 years ... Went with a 4.5 inch Zone suspension lift with upgraded shocks and sway bar. Also did a 1 inch body lift. 35 inch KO2’s on new rims. Did a Big Brake Kit up front. ECGS re-geared it for the 35’s, Extended the driveshaft, and did chromoly axle shafts. New bumpers all around. Put a cheap winch and a new stereo in with an overhead speaker bar. New seat covers new soft top. Feels kind of dirty driving it around town since Im a Tacoma guy but it was fun spending someone else’s money

Just got it back last week spent the last 2 G’s shoring up the engine. Lifters were sticking pretty bad from never being driven so we had the heads pulled off and got all new lifters pushrods bunch of new parts on the top end. Running pretty good now if I do say so myself. For all my efforts over the last 3 months I can grab it whenever.
