In other news, anyone have experience with a serp belt / pulleys? I'm looking to do some preventative maintenance to get the truck deep into the 300k range, and I'm at 220k now,

What do you wanna know about the pulley & belts? I have a spare of each in my parts box... relatively simple to replace.

 

Well, I'd like to do it, but with some guidance by someone who knows what they're doing ideally

I can pay with candy (I work at Hershey) or beer (troegs is down the street from me) or both lol

 

Not bad for the price, but I was not impressed with them at all. I have one because it is light as shit and I can take it anywhere. I also have a field and stream shadow caster for fishing. It was around $550 when I got it on sale, but night and day difference.

The sun dolphins just don't track for shit. If you stop paddling it will spin on you, not ideal when fishing. It all depends on what you want. I wanted a raised seat, which didn't accomplish seeing into the water anymore than sitting level. The difference is mine is so stable that I can stand up and walk back and forth in the haul. That made a big difference in my fishing game. I was able to see the structure to pick spots to cast.

Finally, that is about market price on them, Dick's sells them with paddle sometimes for 239.

I changed a belt and pulley on a rest stop in a canyon off of RT 70 in Colorado once. I was on my way back from Moab and my belt decided to let go.

Looks like you're set up with homer But yea they're easy. Pain to get to, but really easy. I've changed my belt once and the idlers twice now. There's two different idlers, so keep that in mind. This is for the 4.0

The top two idlers can be reached from the top. I had the best luck getting the bottom one from underneath

 

While we are all talking preventive maintenance.... I feel like when I run the a/c ....when it turns on/off (the compressor) is quite aggressive...It's noticeably felt from a driving perspective... is that something that tacomas "do" or should I be looking at replacing some components..?
